Photographer's Note

This series was supposed to be all in b/w but this photo just would not have it. It demanded colour, and stubborn as I may be against the face of such blatant defiance over my authority, I allowed it to slide ;-)

This was taken on a dreary overcast day which lends to a flat, dreary pic, but I think that works quite well for my intent here.

This pic is the last in the series. It doesn't really need explanation I think. Ok, I admit I the store is called "Safeway" and I cloned out the bit of "W" for effect. But what exactly is the store keeping us "safe" from?

Now that the series is done please let me stress that I do not call for a "return-to-nature" or any other hokey New-Agey sh*t. I like the convenience of going to the store and buying my food and not having to depend on my skills as a hunter (I have no wish for starvation!). I am just concerned that in the West we forget that food doesn't come from the store. And that we should be more aware of what is so important to life.

Cheers all!

Other pictures in the series:
The Joy of Shopping
"It's a Chore"
Still Hunting

Post-pro:
- I selected the dumpster in the background and copied to a new layer
- levels and curves adjusted for both layers seperately
- cloned out "W" (after "Safe") and "&" (after "Food")

***Note: I deleted two pics in this series yesterday ("What Do We Gather" and "Young Hunters"). I was looking over the pics as a whole and realized that the last three postings were too similar in their framing (waist high shot with grocery shelves receding into the pic, with human subjects in foreground), so I chose my fav of the bunce ("Still Hunting") and dropped the others.
