Peyto Lake, a photo from Alberta, Prairies

Photographer's Note

As you head north on the Icefields Parkway there is a short deviation to the west that takes you to Peyto Lake, probably the second most photographed spot in Banff NP after Lake Louise.
Most of the photos of Peyto Lake on TE are of the same view and I have previously posted one of them (8 years ago) and you can see that common view if you follow the Peyto Lake link above.
So to be different here is a view of just the eastern end of the amazingly coloured famous lake with its unusual indentations and surrounded by dense forest. The photo was taken from a high lookout.

Hello Ian, Fantastic view from above, like from a drone. But in 2012 there were no drones. Splendid colour of the lake, dense forest. Pure nature. Superb composition and striking sharpness.

This could have been an aerial view from central Finland, "the land of 10.000 lakes" (there are actually many more). Fantastic contrasts between blue and green and again very good sharpness.

Hello Ian,

This is a great viewpoint, giving us a birds'-eye view of the lakes and clearly showing how the conifer forests come right up to the shoreline in all directions.

I have to ask, what sort of wild animals reside there?
Were there moose or bears?

I visited this area also in July 1999. The point of view is showing the details of the trees and of the lake. I appreciate the different tits of colors of the lake. Have a nice day.

A spectacularly situated viewpoint.
In this photo, the lake appears to have a star shape.
The blue colour of the water makes the lake stand out strongly surrounded by the dense forests.

Hi Ian,

On a sunny day this lake looks great, but when I rode past it was grey, very cloudy and snowing so I didn't ask my driver to stop. But I was rewarded with equally nice lake scene around Jasper when the weather improved. A good elevated lookout offering a wide panorama. Tfs!
