Photographer's Note

As I was sitting by the window in my favourite cafe this morning, a young woman was just kneeling down to find something in her bag. Her reflection, with the little potted tree behind, merged with the outside. It reminded me of the Greek myth of Daphne, the beautiful nymph who was turned into a laurel tree by her father, the River God Peneus. It wasn't the sensuous Aegean Sea outside, nor the gently rolling hills of the Olympos, but the snowy street of Ottawa, still resisting the eventual arrival of spring.
