WRITING ON STONE PROVINCIAL PARK
Location: S.E. Alberta, Canada
At Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park, the meandering Milk River has carved deeply into the prairie, exposing the underlying sandstone bedrock. Water and wind sculpt this soft rock into a variety of fantastic shapes, creating a dramatic, surreal landscape of cliffs and massive outcrops. cliff faces are covered with the largest concentration of Plains Indian " rock art" in North America, and in order to protect it, this park was established in 1957.
The Sweetgrass hills in the background are in Montana. The Milk River comes up into Canada from Montana and flows for a few hundred kilometres, then flows back to the U.S.
During the ice-age the glaciers went around the Sweetgrass hills. The only other hills to have this happen are the Cypress Hills about 3 hours east.

Hi Janice,
This is a very pleasing composition. The water curve leads one's eyes to a farther distance. The subtle hues are quite admireable. I have not been to this part of Canada. Well done.

The rolling grassland hills is a nice setting for this photo. I like the switchback effect in this photo. The angle of lighting can be tricky in a setting like this. You handled it very well. Good exposure throughout the scene! It would be nice to see a setting like this near sunset with long deep shadows! Good work!

Hi Janice. I sure like the 'S' curve of the river here, as it leads my eye around the photo. Nice exposure and composition!

Great compo, starting in the lower right corner, I see th enumber 2, topping out below the focal point of the hills.
