Valley of the five lakes, a photo from Alberta, Prairies

Photographer's Note

This is an easy circuit. The undulating trail leads past the eastern shores of three of the five charming lakes filling a north-south depression. The other two, much larger ones, can be seen and visited by side paths. The lakes are numbered from their proximity to Jasper. Part of the way follows a panoramic hillside, the view dominated by Mt. Edith Cavell, Brussels Peak and Pyramid Mountain.

At First and Fifth lakes, there are boats that can be rented in advance from sports shops in Jasper.

Trail 9a begins with an easy walk through a forest of lodgepole pine, reaching a boardwalk across the Wabasso Creek wetlands in the first kilometre. Beyond, the trail climbs across a flowery meadow to a junction. using Trail 9a reach Fifth Lake, with its small island and nesting loons. Watch for 9a markers leading left toward Fourth Lake, Third and Second, each a different depth and thus a different hue of bluegreen.

your shot belongs to my taste! The low PoV and the very good framing are the proper for the situation. The air fondled the water in the depth and created a beautiful effect! I like the natural colours and the sharpness!

I really like the way the trees reflect on the clean water surface. And the bunch of grass in the foreground that disturbs its monotony and allows the eye to rest on it for a while is also a very good idea. Let alone the composition safely leading the viewer´s sight to the high peaks far in the background... Good job.

This is a beautifully composed photo! The reflection gives the shot nice balance and depth. The clear water in the foreground give the shot a 3-D appearance. The texture provided by the wind on the rear part of the lake breaks up the symmetry nicely. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and DOF.

Hi Christian,

I like the quality of the new camera. The pictures look nicer. but I think you may still need a polarizer to enhance the sky. Nice point of view with the mirror like surface giving depth. The water is clear, just like in most lakes in the Rockies. Nice work...Did you use manual or auto mode for this image?

You bring us here a very peaceful and quiet place.
The composition is very well thought of and enhances the nice perfect reflection. The color of the water is a mix of blue and green reminding the landscape. I like as well the inclusion of these small blades of grass in the foreground to introduce the scenary.

At the moment you post this shot,I wanted to do a WS,enhacing the colors...nothing special,but stopped after all.
I liked the picture from the begining,for the natural colors,the reflection which looks so nice.
The place must be a "paradise"...5 lakes,mountains,nature and it`s beauty.

in less then 48 hours I will be in this area. Looking over the map and making up my mind where to go and what I won't be able to see I stumbled over this lyric name of Valley of the Five Lakes. At the end I decided that I won't go there. Your image is challenging my decision. The same shot later or earlier on the day should give an outstanding landscape photograph.
