Photographer's Note

CUERNAVACA is the capital and largest city of the state of Morelos in Mexico.

The name is derived from the Nahuatl phrase Cuauhnahuac and means "surrounded by trees". It was Hispanicized to Cuernavaca ("cow horn") because the Spanish could not pronounce the original name.

Our reason for visiting this enjoyable and rather well-off place was because this is where Malcolm Lowry wrote the novel Under the Volcano and some of the city's sights feature in it...although the actual volcanoes are nowhere to be seen!
