St Bertinus, a photo from West-Vlaanderen, Flanders

Photographer's Note

The gothic tower of St. Bertinus church of Bulskamp, a village in the Flanders region of Belgium, dates from the 15th century. The church itself has been rebuild in 1883 in neo-gothic style.
Many of the graves around the church are marked by crosses executed in cast iron as shown on this view.

Ciao dear Paul,
I share your choice of the B&W because the eye is not distracted by the colors but is focused in the subjects that compose the image. In this case the noise is not a defect but it contributes to create a pleasant mystical feeling. Excellent work, compliment!

I'm not such a big fan of B&W, but this image seems perfect for it. Your low POV works well to place the crucifix against the sky. I was wondering about the DOF and ISO, so checked the photo info. You have put the wrong camera. I was thinking with a DSLR at f3.5 the church would have been more out-of-focus than it is. Maybe you get more lee-way with a compact. However you did it, the result works well.

Well Paul, you did achieve a dramatic result with the way you place the cross and the B&W decision.
Personnaly, I will have pushed the contrast a little bit more, but you had a decisoin t make and the artist is always right.
