Photographer's Note
The Place
This is the rocky shoreline of the fishing village of Cocholgüe during a clear sky sunset. This place is few km from my parents place, Dichato. The place is ideal for slow-shutter photos because there are plenty of interesting rock formation, rocks cover in algae, and strong waves.
You can always check the location of my photos by clicking on the map link.
Background
During December, the sunset in this part of Chile is around 9PM, exactly the time for dinner at my parents place. Thus, it was very hard for me to leave home and wait for the right light for sunset photos.
But I really wanted to shoot at this place, so I told my family I was going to be late for dinner. My wife and daughter wanted to come along, but they could not reach the place where I took this photo since one has to jump from rock to rock to get a good location near the waves. So they waited and waited at the shore.
The locals were wondering who the crazy guy who sets a camera on a tripod in the middle of wet rocks and takes shot after shot of the same rock for 25 minutes!
I took many photos but since the sky was clear there was not a dramatic sky before or after the sunset. I am not 100% happy with the result but I wanted to share this with you anyway. I will definitively go to this place again during my next trip to Chile.
Technical
Used Cokin Grad 8ND filter, and very windy weather

Hello Jorge,
An original coastal view brought in fine darker colours contrasting with the well rendered water flow and spray. Good choice for a high horizon to put the focus on the overgrown rocks.

Hello Jorge,
Generally I'm not such a big fan of tripod toting nature photography, although I can appreciate a good shot, and I really like this one. What does it for me, though, are those miniature boats that are visible in the distance. That is the masterstroke in the composition for me.
Thanks for this excellent upload.

One word Jorge- SUPERB!
I feel like a big wave is about to crash right through my monitor looking at this. The number one thing I asked myself when opening this shot was whether or not the horizon was going to be level (a personal pet peeve of mine), sure enough it's spot on! Excellent tonal levels, sharp detail, and natural looking colors. My only suggestion is to work on your copyright as it's a bit 'plain' in contrast to the stunning shot ;-)
All the best,
- Dan

Hi Jorge,
Not 100% satsified? Good to read this, shake hands because i'm also never satisfied ;-)
The only thing that i could come up with would be some nice warm sunlight over the rocks, but that's easier said than done. And while you are not really satisfied, i'm looking at it and thing it's a great shot with the waves coming in and bouncing against the rocks in this 1 sec exposure.
Love the bright part on the left top, that island shines in sunlight, just as that sky above....wonderful contrast.
Locals are always wondering what fool stands there, no surprise to me, i'm used that people think like that when i'm out on a location ;-)
Keep them coming....
Regards,
Henk

hi Jorge
I think the color tone of the sky even though just a tint of warmth is showing very nicely with this view of the rock formation covered by moss.
I also like the effect from the 1s exposure. Especially the wave action.
Good work.

Jorge,
the composition and capture of the moment is perfect. It really couldn't be better. Well, you're not satisfied? Good, that is always the right attitude for improvement and getting better. Personally I would wish more light on the foreground rocks. That part is to dark. Did you try to open it with levels or exposure?

Hello Jorge,
The slow shutter speed has assisted in producing a classic, with the waves pounding onto the rocks. The frame is perfectly created also, evocative of a beveled mat, and a narrow metal frame, as good photographic art is frequently displayed.
Warm regards,

Saludos

Hello Bruno!
A pretty simple picture, not many elements that compose it, however, the visual impact is immense, due to the photo quality, with pretty suitable sharpness, perfect exposure and wonderful colors! It does please me a lot!
TFS - congratulations!

Hello Jorge
Not only is this a dynamic shot, but also a technically good one. I'm sure the locals would have thought that way about you, taking pictures for 25 minutes! While I of course like the effect of the waves splashing onto the rocks with the 1 sec exposure shot, I do like the details of the FG rocks themselves as well! Fine work!
Regards
Angshu
