Photographer's Note
A view of the Ngozumpa Glacier in the Gokyo valley, Khumbu region. The peak towards the left of the photo at the head of the valley is Cho Oyu, at 8201m the sixth highest mountain in the world. In the foreground, on the glacier, we can see a so-called supraglacial lake; fed by surface meltwater, it will grow as the glacier slowly grinds its way down the valley, and unless the waters find themselves a natural outlet through a drainage hole into the glacier, or through the maze of surface rock, then it could pose a threat of flooding to communities down the valley; one day it will reach the snout of the glacier and its waters will be released to thunder down to the plains of the Terai, potentially sweeping away low lying villages or causing steep valley sides to slip in dangerous, unpredictable landslides.

Hello Philip,
Incredible colors for an incredible landscape. Going to this part of the world must be an awaken dream. This environment is at the same time dangerous, but so wonderful.
Thanks for bringing us back this fabulous image.

Hello Philip,
Nice view of this glacier, even if there is no more ice on it. The picture show us the bottom. We see the work done on it by the ice. It is a good view. Also the sky on the back is so blue.
Well done.

Hello Phillip,
amazing view, good seen and captured. I like the simple composition for such a severe place. Perfect exposure despite the bright sunlight. The air seems crystal and the colours are so saturated! My favorite type of landscape:)Congrat.
