Photographer's Note

Had an almost perfect view of the fireworks this year from the Millender Center. I wish I could have seen down to the river but I was lucky just to have this vantage point.

The buildings on the left are part of the Renaissance Center which is now the General Motors world headquarters. On the opposite side of the Detroit River is Windsor, Ontario (Canada).

For this shot I held the shutter open and covered the lense with my black tripod bag, exposing the scene 3 or 4 times for about 1 second each time. Normally you should use ASA100 or less for fireworks due to the long exposures & bright fireworks -- However I was using up a roll of 400 and therefore compensated by using a smaller aperture (higher f-stop).

Wow, this is a beauty. The crispness is great, and the three lines of fireworks makes it even more engaging. Great capture.

Really spectacular image. You did a very good job at getting the fireworks crisp and clear. I just wish the buildings were not there, but nontheless a wonderful shot.

Now that's a technique for fireworks, crude but oh so effective. Ah yes, great fireworks shot. I may have to try it next time. Thanks Mike.

This is a damn good shot, and I am surprised it didnt get the attention it deserves.

thanks for the technique explanation - I would have never thought of it as possible, not to mention as something that will produce such a wonderful shot.

well done.

concerning the composition, I wouldnt mind seeing just one building at the left. however, I dont mind two as well :)

A very impressive fireworks display. Very sharp, which is hard to do is this sort of photography, and timing is perfect.

This is an excellent capture of the fireworks. It's composed beautifully with a nice balance between the triple fireworks and the RenCen. The near roof adds a great sense of depth and creates a nice reflective surface.

I have always meant to ask where you were for this? I just was never logged in when I've come to it. Is it in Millender Center? This is an excellent point of view to view the fireworks. Especially in contrast to my spot on the edge of Hart Plaza behind some trees.

In Spain I had ever heard that when there was fireworks they where called "castle" and "palm tree". I didn't see until now that "tree". Thank you.
