Maine State House 1, a photo from Maine, Northeast

Photographer's Note

As part of my ongoing project to visit and photograph all 50 State Capitol buildings, here is my first entry for the state of Maine. The Maine State house is located int he state capital of Augusta, about an hour north of Portland, Maine's largest city. Augusta was chosen over
Portland as the capital upon Maine's entry to the union as a state due to its more central location.

The State House itself was designed by Charles Bulfinch, also the architect of the Massachusetts State House and the original architect of the US Capitol in Washington DC. Bulfinch's original design for the Maine State House was smaller than the building today, which has been refurbished and added to several times; most notably, the dome pictured here was added to the building in the first decade of the 20th century.

This view is from the rear of the building, near the legislative office building and the Maine State Museum, both located on the grounds of the State House.

Hello Andrew What a splendid picture with a very high quality. The picture is very clear and colored,detail architecture and ideal frame gave an interest with the sharpness perfect and the composition wonderful idea POV also. Congratulations.

The best frameworked shot in all points.
Very sharp and clear image indeed by close up the main object via wide focus appraoch perfectly. Color touch is so nice and comfortable. Thank you for your sharing with your best shot and have a good day!

Hello Andrew,
This is a nice building, but the fire-escape doesn't quite fit the design. I guess it may be a later addition due to safety regulations. On the other hand its zig zag pattern adds a flavour to the composition. So does of course the dome, which is nicely balanced by the tree about to turn red.

Quite a project you got yourself in to again with all 50 Capitols on your list. This is a rather unusual but very interesting POV for a subject like this.
Is there a reason, why all Capitol buildings in America have the same kind of dome to them?

I love your project to present all the capitols, and I am really enjoying seeing all these beautiful buildings. The colour and saturation in this shot are beautiful, and the dome looks splendid against the sky. The colourful tree adds a nice extra element against the architecture.
