As I mentioned in my last post, I recently upgraded to a new Nikon D3100, a very entry level DSLR. This shot was taken the day I got the new camera down the street from my house at Horn Pond in Woburn, MA, a 2 mile circumference public water source that also serves as a large recreational area.

Woburn is probably best known as the site of the W.R. Grace ground containment scandal, in which the diagnosis of several residents with leukemia led to a massive lawsuit against a local chemical company for illegal dumping. The lawsuit was eventually successful, and a book and film called "A Civil Action" were created about the event and lawsuit. The town has recovered tremendously in the 30 years since, and there is no trace of contaminants in the ground, leaving places like Horn Pond cleaner and more usable than before.

The color on this shot is unaltered from the original - it was a pretty stunning bit of sunset. It might be a bit overexposed in the blue range, but I think it adds to the effect. The only editing done here was cropping and the cloning out of small parts of other ducks along the bottom frame.
