Photographer's Note
There is currently an artistic project taking place simultaneously in London and NYC called "Play me, I'm yours". Here in NYC there are sixty pianos, scattered across public places in all five boroughs. Anyone can sit down and play.
British artist Luke Jerram started this project in 2008, and since then street pianos have appeared in the UK, Brazil, Australia, Spain, and now the USA. He wanted to see what would happen if pianos were made available to the public. The result has been all kinds of spontaneous performances.
I captured this man tentatively fingering the piano located in Greeley Square in Manhattan, which is two blocks away from Herald Square and Macy's department store.

Hello Brenda,
Very useful note accompanying your photo. Very nicely done, sharp details and good colors. A wonderful example of how "street photography" can be so entertaining for the eyes, as some would be pianists could be for the hear.
Thnaks for sharing !

Olá Brenda, what a very interesting project. 60 pianos?!?! Wow, that's great. I imagine none of them is brand new, after all they are in the street exposed to all kinds of weather and 'fingers'. I actually love the very old look of this one. Funny to see the couple in the back looking this way. Problably was the piano and not your camera that captured their attention and that's a good thing.

Hi Brenda,
This is a great idea! Maybe I would like to find saxophones instead of pianos but I appreciate the fact that you wouldn´t really walk away with a piano... A very interesting picture with this fine street view from NYC!
Kind regards

I note with interest Brenda that they attached the stoll wit ha metal cord :)
I know they were allowing people in glasgow to use bikes during the arts festival a few months back
All the junkies (people with hard drug dependancy issues) thought xmas had came months earlier than normal...
Great candid shot
Been looking forward to your shots as its been a wee while since you uploaded
Cheers

Hello Brenda
That's an awesome idea and it looks as if it works with this person tickling the ivories, nice capture and well spotted although a piano in the middle of the square can hardly be missed.

Hello Brenda,
Hello Brenda,
This is the most interesting international project. It is amazing there are sixty pianos around NYC available for the public to play. You captured the scene very nicely. The midday lighting, colors, and clarity are excellent. I enjoyed both your note and the photo. Thank you for your critique on my shot of Iguassu Falls.
Kind regards,
Betty

Nice idea really and I like the caption I'm yours with the stool tied to the piano. Its a really nice concept really to see what kind of talent can be found in NYC. And this piano does look pretty beat up too, not to mention the temp and humidity changes which would force this piano out of tune in no time.

Hi Brenda,
your picture gives me good memories of this place, because I lodged in a hotel in this area on my first trip in 1999.
Well captured the everyday atmosphere of the streets of NY in a very interesting scene with the art project of outdoor pianos, and the man trying to fingering it.
Well seen, and well done.
Friendly regards,
Josep

Hi Brenda,
the shot makes me smile :)
very good POV - even though we can't see the man's face. To me, it's the piano that's more important in this case :)
Poor old piano... it looks shabby! old.. and it is full of its own thoughts, standing like that when just anybody can come up - and play it!
best regards,
Elena
