Photographer's Note

The Lower East Side of Manhattan is a very colorful and interesting neighborhood. Around almost every corner there is public art, and it has the feeling of a large, open-air gallery.

In the late 1800's and early 1900's this area was home to a huge immigrant population. They came from Ireland, Italy, and all over Eastern Europe, and they crowded into block after block of cramped tenement apartments.

The tenements remain, although they have been mostly renovated, and the neighborhood is now filled with trendy shops and bars, and lots of young professionals.

While walking around, I came across this colorful mural on the side of a pizza restaurant. Every few months a new mural goes up in this spot. This particular one is the work of an urban artist from California who calls himself Madsteez. Apparently, it's a character from the movie "Zoolander".

In the WS is a different composition. I'd love to know which one you prefer. :-)
