Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
When people visit New York, the Statue of Liberty is usually high on their agenda.
Which was exactly what happened when we visited. I took lots of photographs of the statue but particularly liked this one, close-up, showing the important symbols that she is holding.
The Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World; French: La Liberté éclairant le monde) is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbour. The copper statue, a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States, was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and its metal framework was built by Gustave Eiffel. The statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886.
The statue is a figure of Libertas, a robed Roman liberty goddess. She holds a torch above her head with her right hand, and in her left hand carries a tablet inscribed JULY IV MDCCLXXVI (July 4, 1776 in Roman numerals), the date of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. (Co-incidentally, that is my husband's birthday so we were thrilled by all the celebrations that happened whilst we were there!)
From this low viewpoint, with the clouds lower than the upheld torch, the statue appears to be floating!
I will add a second photograph, as a workshop, so that a sense of scale can be appreciated.
Thank you for your interest, Bev :-)
I have just obtained a new computer, monitor and keyboard so I may be a little slow ... for a while! My husband, who is far more computer literate than me, is transferring files! What a job!

An impressive upwards view to the world-famous monument, Beverley.
Even though I lived in NYC for a while, I visited only one time there, it was July 1974. And the most bizarre thing thatb happened to me on that visit: I had no film in my Fujica camera - and did not realized this on time... So, I have not a single picture from the statue...
This is a fine lit picture, imposing POV.
Have a nice new week,
Ike

Hello Bev,
The title made me think you had managed a very smart photo of the statue reflected in the sea - really floating. You didn't, but it's still an impressive composition with a very good background of blue sky and fluffy clouds in the lower part. The wider view in the WS is also a good photo.
Best regards,
Gert

A beautiful statue, a gift from French America.
Well shown with nice colors, contrast and good text.
A beautiful photo in the workshop and a memory, a well-captured moment.
I wish you all the best in the new week that has begun.

Hello Beverley, an excellent point of view. We feel quite close to her, and the sharpness of your shot allows us to enjoy all the details especially all the folds of her robe.
And of course taken against that lovely blue sky, she stands out so clearly.
We visited LIberty Island, but that was before I had a digital camera! Maybe one day we will return, maybe not!
Thanks for sharing, your notes are very informative.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Bev,
One of the main tourist attraction of New York. The close-up point of view is showing the details of the Statue of Liberty. The light is bringing out the colours. Have a nice day.

Hello Bev
Love the clouds coming from behind the lady. A wonderful view looking up at her. A lot of meaning for us Americans. At least it used to be. She stands proud for the world to see. Thanks for the image.

I saw the "twin" of this statue in a bridge of paris, it was done in the same time, I guess. of course the big one is the famous by its meaning, probably it was a gift from france only to tease UK. haha. nice view.
I remember a post I saw from a friend in FB, she posted an image of a famous brazilian shop whose entrance there is a giant copy of this statue in front each one and she wrote: I took an huber and I sleep, when I waked up I thought I was arriving in USA. haha... If you can check the store its name is HAVAN.
take care

Hello Beverley,
I'm afraid I will disappoint you ... Last year I was in NYC for 13 days and I didn't visit the Statue of Liberty ...
I did pass it fairly close on the way to Staten Island. But still too far for a good photo. Does this mean I have to go back?
Here you were standing very close to the statue. Did you go all the way up into the statue's crown? I once saw in an old movie that this was possible.
Excellent sharp presentation with a blue sky as background.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Bev,
Both of your photos are beautiful, and in this main one I can feel the strength portrayed by Lady Liberty. I hope she watches over us during this election, and we move forward in a positive way. Take care!

Beverley, a classic but excellent picture of the statue of liberty in New York. It is a symbol of this city and of the Usa too. The European migrants hoped to find freedom, peace, a better life when they left their countries to settle in America. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hi Bev,
I opened your gallery after a week of absence and I thought I have mistakenly opened somebody else's gallery.. So many new photos and from the US for a change.
Great presentations of the statue of liberty. Fantastic blue sky makes a great background for it. You have chosen here the best possible angle while in the workshop we have a postcard view to enjoy.
Excellent work!!
