Photographer's Note
Bethany Beach is a beach resort town at the far southern end of Delaware's coast. It is part of a long string of beach communities like Lewes, Dewey, Rehoboth, and Fenwick Island that draw visitors from all over the mid-Atlantic and the rest of the United States each summer. Particularly popular for vacationers from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia, Bethany Beach has been serving as a resort town since its founding in 1898, when religious revivalist meetings began there.
Today, Bethany's downtown area is bustling on a summer night, with tourists and vacationers watching a live show on the boardwalk, visiting the arcade, or sampling some of the treats for sale up and down Garfield Parkway, the town's main street. Here, people line up at the Frozen Custard stand at night, while the rushed servers try to keep orders straight.

Frozen custard? Never tried it but I can feel a theme around food developing here Andrew! It's time to eat in the UK right now and I'm hungry already!
You have managed to capture the light and colours here extremely accurately in very low light conditions especially given those bright flourescent lights above the window spaces AND the light wave frequency of those lights didn't appear to affect the white balance of the shot. No mean feat and it suggests your low light skills are well developed (no pun intended)! I love the light and the expression in that kids face as well as the slightly work weary look of the girl serving the cones.
Good work

Hi Andrew,
Wow! Frozen custard? I've never heard of that stuff but it actually sounds quite delicious, especially if it's real custard, made with eggs and cream and not your horrid powdered stuff you mix with water.
I like this picture a lot and you have done very well to take this in ambient light at ISO 100. I see you've used a shutter speed of just 1/50 second, so you must have a steady hand too. And with your lens almost wide open at f/2.8. Good on you!
And, my favourite thing, of course, is the lighting which is just superb on the faces of the customers queueing up waiting for their treats - the light from the shop window lights up them and their clothing perfectly and yet we can still see lots of detail within the café too.
Perfect exposure, good composition, lovely vibrant colours and super sharpness and detail.
Excellent!
Kind Regards,
John.

Andrew,
Nicely seen and captured. I can't help but smile at the serious faces of the patrons and the server as they line up for something that should be a fun treat. There must be some social comment that could be made about this. I love the extreme contrast between the light and dark

Hello Andrew
I suppose the frozen custard is just the name of this Ice cream joint, as I have never heard about frozen custard.
This could have been taken somewhere in Italy, it has a distinctive italian Ice cream parlour feeling about it.
The way you managed the available light is great. The picture is so clear and crisp.
have a good Sunday

Hi Andrew
Lovely summer night ambience and really does look cozy. A superb image with good tonal/colour balance and heaps of human interest that makes you want to look at every detail. This shot captured some of the essence of this fast food outlet and its culture. A lot stands out, specks of vivid colors particularly that blue ad draw my eyes in towards the counter and love the look of expectation on both, and the subtle warm glow makes the winner for me. Fabulous night shot, you turn an everyday scene into something really special, absolute mastery of this type of processing and imagery! Well done, Cheers.
Best regards

HI Andrew,
I see we use pretty much the same camera/lens set up - and that 50mm does a good job in these kind of conditions of low light. I am drawn to street food, street photography and low light shots, and this is well exposed - for me the boy in the green shirt is the central focus here, it works well.
Cheers
Justin
