Photographer's Note
These gulls were sitting in row on this railing shortly before a retiree whom I photographed previously came to feed them. They line up on this fence every morning at Tybee beaching awaiting their breakfast.
Though the highlightlights weren't blown on this negative, the sprint developer still made the tri-x grainier than usual. I dropped back the graniness a bit by scanning the neg really huge, appling a median filter, reducing the image then sharpening it after the reduction to a mere 5200x3600 pixels (1/3 the original scan pixel area.) I achieved this "old" look by creating a duplicate layer, that was duotoned on top of the original grey scale image and then applying a violet photo filter to that layer as well. Finally, I reduced the colorized layers opacity to 40% and added +10 contrast to the greyscale layer underneath. This is the result.
