This archival photo presents a view of Californian Coast south from San Francisco, which is known as Big Sur.
I am one of the TrekEarth addicts. Of course, there are different levels of this addiction, I may be not the worst, but nevertheless I really like it. With the site slowly collapsing I feel as if my friend was dying. I have heard from Gert that regional TrekEarth maps are not being updated. This is quite sad because I believe it was the maps which made this place different from any other place where you could simply dump some photos. I feel like I repeat myself recently. For those of you who did not notice it I will paste here the text which I used in my personal TrekEarth profile.
MULTIPLE TECHNICAL ISSUES HAVE NOT BEEN FIXED FOR YEARS NOW. THE SITUATION HAS REACHED A CRITICAL LEVEL WITH MANY ELEMENTS OF THE WEBSITE NOT FUNCTIONING ANYMORE, MAPS NOT BEING UPDATED, ERROR MESSAGES, ETC.
Why on Earth I am on TrekEarth? (10 February 2020)
REGIONAL MAPS
Since my early childhood, I love browsing through maps. TrekEarth offers not only the option of organizing my travel photos according to a country but also the possibility to sort them into regions. I can quickly access my or other member’s photos from a given region. This is something extraordinary. This is a very (geo)graphic way of grouping photos, which are souvenirs of my trips, and remind me great time I had on holidays. No other website offers that to this extent.
LOCAL TOURISM
Most of us cannot travel around the world all the time. We miss either health, strength, money or time to travel to faraway lands. Viewing photos of TE members from other countries is like taking part in a trip. It is sometimes easier to find time and money to make a local trip to a beautiful place and share it here. In that way we can feel as a part of the travel community and other members can learn about off-the-beaten-track destinations, which they will not hear about from commercial guidebooks.
PLANNING HOLIDAYS
TrekEarth is a great help in planning holidays. You can browse through photos, read the comments and learn what places to visit what to avoid. I learned a lot about some locations before going there in person. If you know what to expect, you can better prepare and you can optimally use the valuable time at the destination. Some photos can also teach us which places are not for us. You have to be also very careful regarding the advice you get here. Some people may try to convince you that a place is safe but this may refer to their own feelings. The safety rules will be different if you are an attractive young girl traveling alone or an old ugly man like myself :) They may try to convince you that traveling is cheap but intercontinental flights tend to stay expensive no matter what, etc. Apply a common sense to the advice which you get here.
PHOTOS QUALITY
At the beginning I put a lot of emphasis on learning what photographic equipment to purchase and how to take a good photo. Now, even though I make an effort to take a good photo, I am rather focused on sharing a place and experience rather than a perfect photography product. I see many people leave TrekEarth since the quality of uploaded photos is not challenging them enough. I can understand them but I don’t see us staying here as losers. We just select a different approach.
WRITING CRITIQUES
People have various approaches to writing critiques. I am not going to question anybody’s approach. People are here to have fun. In the end we are all like children, and there is nothing wrong in ticking off smileys as long as we enjoy it. My personal approach is to reply to critiques, which I get. I prefer to write comments to imperfect photos but made by real people and those who appreciate it and are involved as well. Some people say that members here are just complimenting each other but are not honest. I believe it all comes down to the maturity of a person. Of course, I know how to be harsh and fundamental and that would probably quicker lead us all to better quality photos. But is it what we really want? Harsh, efficient and perfect? I think focusing on the positive aspects of the photos and occasionally pointing out the improvement areas creates a more pleasant environment. Whoever is predominantly interested in the photo quality will pick it up from subtle comments. I am learning it in my personal and professional life as well. A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down.
CONFLICTS
Of course, there are unpleasant situations happening here, just like in the real life. You learn to avoid some people who are arrogant, have different view of the world, or simply have different expectations from this website. Some people experience also conflicts with the moderators. That usually happens when people get so excited about being here that they forget that the rules apply to them too.

pozdrawiam

Hello dear friend
I red carefully your thoughts and my personal
opinion is right....there is no interest
for the quality of the photo but only
for the points...I am so sad too...
and many times I thought that it was
time to leave away....

Bonjour, cher Mariusz,
C'est curieux de voir la côte ainsi escarpée s'avançant sur l'océan de cette façon.
C'est beau, et la présence d'un pont donne l'échelle de l'environnement.
Amitiés.

Hi Mariusz,
Superb view well framed, good POV of this coast, perfect blue and green tones, good detail and focal point with the bridge, nice perspective effect.
An interesting opinion with your long note... As long as there is a certain pleasure in frequenting this site ... for the moment, TE is still alive and I don't ask myself too many questions ! TFS.

Ciao Mariusz, I have carefully read all your interesting note and I share it word for word, I am among the first drug addicts of TreckEarth and it also hurts me to see this beautiful site go more and more in decline. I learned a lot thanks to the criticisms of the friends of TE, I have known many new and enchanting places, I hope that everything must not end sadly. Your photo is very beautiful and the title is significant, we hope that we are not really going towards the end of TreckEarth, a warm hug Silvio

Hello Mariusz,
You are eloquent in expressing your views, many of which we are in total agreement.
I really wish that more time was put into improving the site. I feel saddened by the tardiness in repairing failing features, like recording the number of people who have viewed a photograph. I also seriously miss the Beta site but understand the desire to take emphasis away from points collecting. Still the Beta site gave clearer photos and it was possible to view all photographs in that mode.
Back to your photograph, I really like this. I like how you have been able to include repeating promontories, which create an amazing sense of depth. Each one has its own distinctive features, slightly different from the previous. The clouds are important, too, seeming to act as a backstop.
You have achieved fine clarity and colours.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello, Mariusz!
Very nice POV to show the different bays formed by the mountains, captured with excellent light, colors and depth! Wonderful composition!
Unfortunately your title is absolutely right, TE is dying, and it seems to be very close to its definite end. Since it was acquired by IB it is getting worse and worse, and now not even some of the most important features of the site are working properly anymore. Next month I'm going to a different Brazilian state, and if my map is not painted correctly, I think I'll finish my participation here after more than 15 years...

Hello Mariusz, a beautiful scene from your archive. You have kept this hidden away for quite a time!
The bridge is an interesting focal point, a man made structure in a very natural landscape.
As for your notes, I agree with what you have to say. I learn so much from being here. I see places that I will probably never visit, and it is good communicating with the members.
If it does fade away, I will be very sad!
I enjoy my photography, and TE gives me a chance to share the things that I have seen. And it is unlike other photo-sharing sites.
Kind regards, Jean.

Sadly the quality of TrekEarth has deteriorated over the years but the moderators still do the best that they can. It can't be pleasant for them either. Anyway, a terrific coastal scene and you were lucky with the weather. The arched bridge adds a strong focal point. Gorgeous colour and saturation with good sharpness and framing. Tfs!

Bonjour Mariusz,
Je me sens un petit peu comme toi en ce moment en ce qui concerne le site. J'y suis de moins en moins présent et je croyais que cela me manquerais, mais non. J'ai passé une saison au complet et j'ai survécu. Facebook devient une alternative très intéressante.
Amicalement

Good evening Mariusz,
The Pacific ocean seems to "bite" the hilly terrain falling to the sea along.
The blue water looks calm though, at time taken and no fog which normally comes during afternoons.
Fine picture from the no. 1 road that runs parallel with the coast.
My best regards,
Ike

Mariusz, the title stresses me out! How it can be the end of Te when i still have to post hundreds of photos? I think many other members should say the same thing. I ve signaled last month, the current issues : since january 16th, Te counters for the views and Te maps don t work properly. The regional maps don t appear but also the national maps. These last years the issues were troubleshooted in less than 10 days but this year it takes more time. I hope Te technical team will repair the site asap.
That coast is spared from the urbanization, it stayed wild. The landscape is made of cliffs and hills. The lookout provides a good depth. Fine colors, good sharpness, useful photo note, regards.

Hello Mariusz,
It is truly sad to see how the site is being neglected by its owners and I can only hope that people will keeping on posting photos as long as its possible. If we give up, the owners will surely follow, so I am determined to keep posting as long as its possible. It's just too precious a hobby to just abandon it. And in the meantime, I keep my fingers crossed and hope someone will have a little bit of time left to fix some of the bugs (and the maps first please, one of my favourite features). Anyway, a gorgeous photo of the California coast. Stunning landscape in a fantastic light!

Hi Mariusz,I practically agree with everything you said, but here it seems that administrators are ghosts with whom it is impossible to talk and every report of software defects falls on deaf ears. I witnessed the sunset of treknature where we are now 10. I don't think TE will end up the same because there are still too many drug addicts, but surely the site is in decline. Congratulations indeed for your notes and for the really beautiful photo. Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hello my friend Mariusz.
After a long period that I needed as a rest and to dedicate myself to my new change of residence, from Madrid I have moved to live in a smaller city 30 km away. Alcala de Henares, a beautiful city with a lot of history and very nice and quiet.
Wonderful perspective of the Californian coast, here the beautiful nature makes us forget the striking Californian cities, ideal the shades of color of both the sea and the lands and greens.
Very effective color, which highlights the details of the image.
A good management, both of the luminosity, as of the sharpness.
Very well done. I like.
Enjoy the weekend.
My best wishes for you.
Luis
