Today begins in Portugal the campaign of the abortion referendum to be voted next February 11. This is a highly controversial issue, here like everywhere else.
Last year during San Diego's Earth Day celebrations in Balboa Park (Earth Day 2006), there was a protest area required by the police, but the protesters standards of decency could not be assured by the EarthFair organizers, as we read in a notice (see WS). Thats the freedom of speech, so cherished by Americans.
Among the dozens of protesters, there was this stall of the anti-abortion. They use strong images to express their opinion. I guess these too strong, radical images may get the contrary of the desired effect.

Os portugueses que queiram saber a minha opiniăo sobre este assunto do aborto podem consultar um artigo num blog. Basicamente, năo concordo com a actual lei, mas também năo concordo com a lei que eventualmente sairá da vitória do sim. O meu voto deveria ser nim, se tal fosse possível. :-(

Hi Francisco,
You raised very sensitive issue thro your image. I think lots of debate required in this issue to stop these kind of things & I think we can do thro internet & thro images as you did here. I like your idea to attract our attention in this issue.

Este já é mais o teu tipo de 'posts', Francisco ;-) Estava a ver que isto podia dar 'molho', mas defendeste bem a coisa com o último parágrafo. Tive curiosidade e já lá fui dar uma vista de olhos ŕs interessantes questőes que lá expőes.

Ola Francisco,
One would need to compare this photo to some of your other photos of the event to note the lack of crowds in this area; in this one the police numbers seem to equal the actual numbers of visitors. Liberals tend to polite, but vote with their feet. HLJ, Pat

its sad that this image would be considered for removal, thats the one thing i think this site needs improvment on is showing meanigful images. i mean if i show a nice flower or a girl jumping rope in africa its good if we show real images of ongoing situation its removed. well done and thanx for posting this important photo

existem pessoas nos EUA que aprovam o aborto pois dizem que as mâes destas crianças năo as desejam e quando elas nascem estes filhos enjeitados acabam crescendo revoltados e sem educaçăo, convertendo-se em marginais. de certa forma é verdade. por outro lado acho que é muita falta de responsabilidade de uma mulher deixar-se engravidar e depois arrancar seu bebę como se fosse um tumor qualquer. Existem tantas maneiras de se evitar isso. no fim das contas acho que cabe ŕ mulher decidir se quer ou năo matar seu filho, mas que ao menos existam algumas regras para tal coisa. năo creio que proibiçőes evitem abortos, fecha-se a porta principal e o aborto sai pela janela. o negócio é o mesmo com as drogas, educaçăo, senso de ética. da mesma maneira que existem pessoas que acham que animais săo iguais a pedras, existem outros que pensam que filhos săo um inconveniente do sexo, um efeito colateral. se querem trepara, que o façam, mas năo propaguem sua idiotice..
boa a foto, ilustra bem o debate e o cenário americano. algo que raramente se veria no BR.aqui as pessoas năo văo tăo ŕ fundo nas questőes
