Photographer's Note
While heading north out of LA along Highway 14 the landscape is typical high desert. Then suddenly beyond Mojave is the eye catching Red Rock Canyon.
An other wordly area of multi colored desert cliffs, buttes and magical rock formations. This is where the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range collides with the El Paso Range.
The Canyon was important to Native Americans for thousands of years as a trade route. Then in the 1870s the Canyon was a landmark for the Death Valley 20 mule teams heading to the Mojave train connection.
Today it is a California State Park with a campground and numerous hiking trails. California has many State Parks worthy of exploring. Check out State Parks at: www.parks.ca.gov

Wonders of Nature... It reminds me I was there (or not so far...) 16 years ago with my wife, as honeymooners ! ;-) Nice shoot !

Hello Ray,
These beautiful and spectacular eroded rock formations remind me a little at Cappadocia in Turkey.
Very nice to see how different layers have eroded in different ways.
Best regards, Paul

Great composition with the delicate dance of light and shadows on this interesting landscape. Even though I was born and raised in CA, I have never seen this. Thanks for the introduction. Judy

Hi Ray
Nicely composed with the lines created by the gullies all leading to the top. Are there red rocks in the canyon or do they take on that look when the sun is setting or rising? These look more gray with a hint of orange although I do see some loose rock that look more rust coloured.

Hello Ray, I was looking at your last shots, and they are really good.
I like this pov here, with this crazy pattern of rock and sand in foreground.
I've been to this place, by the way. I think they call it The White Cathedral. It is were the initial scenes of the movie Jurassic Park were taken.
Regards Stefano
