Photographer's Note
I was covering the pre-race build-up on the morning of the Bay to Breakers in 2000. Tens of thousands of people packed downtown San Francisco. When the race started, the throng lurched forward, but very slowly. In order to capture the feeling of the undulating crowd, I set my zoom at 17mm and my shutter speed to a slow 1/15 and panned slightly as I pressed the shutter.

The wide angle lens combined with the panning really allowed you to capture this scene well. It's like a sea of people out there, very dynamic perspective.

The technique really worked well and invokes the feeling of undulating humanity as you planned. I'd be interested to compare this technique to that of zooming in slowly while taking the shot at the slow shutter speed.

Great shot Sam. The curve created by the wide-angle lens is suggesting that the people are standing on a sphere which for me creates a semaphore of an over-crowded planet earth.
Thanks for sharing your technical approach. The zoom lens on my camera locks after pressing the shutter.. but panning should work although I never tried it (yet)

I shall give points almost all of your pictures but it will take too long so I´ve decided to include you in between my favourites. By the way, this one it´s what humanity is... something moving and sharpless.
