Photographer's Note

Cannon Beach, Oregon. USA. I waited for quite a while to get this shot. I wanted the soft reflected light on the wet sand - but I also wanted to be able to see the interesting depression in the sand around the foreground rock. I needed to wait until the waves receded enough to allow me to capture the beautiful textures in the sand. The tide was coming in, and with each wave, it seemed more unlikely that I'd get the effect I wanted. Just as I was ready to pack up my gear and get out of the water, the ocean receded and allowed me to take the shot I wanted.

Cannon beach is truly beautiful. It's tide pools are home to purple and orange starfish, hermit crabs, green and pink anemones, and so much more.

Hi Varina,
I like your concept, very nice indeed. A postcard like one. I like the BW choice and the strong foreground. The picture is well balanced and all plays as it shoud. Good choice of f/11 too.

'Love your note. I always like to know how a shot was taken. I think yours was well worth the wait. The B&W and the general high-key are interesting choices. Give it a slightly not-of-this-worldish aspect. Do you also have color versions ? Judging from your note, the colors here are amazing...Good job anyhow.
