Autumn Impressions, a photo from Utah, West

Photographer's Note

Today's photo is simply a composition of autumn colors. This was captured in Sardine Canyon, one of the famous canyons in our area for seeing and capturing fall colors. It is lucky that it is the canyon through which most usually pass when travelling to Salt Lake City from our valley.

The trees you see are cottonwoods. The orage and red colors in the water are from Big Toothed Maples, close cousins of the sugar maple, but more tolerant of our dry climate.

PP: cropped and added 5% contrast.

Great reflections and colors here. I like how you've composed it putting the eye primarily on the water. Have you used the polarizer here to maximize your reflections? TFS.

Beautiful photo, David - the autumnal color palette is shown at the best, and the vivid streak of light on the yellow foliage, combined with the reflections, adds to a contemplative impressionist total. For a totally abstract version, you could crop to have only the reflected part inside the frame.

The top half is great fall color; the bottom half is a beautiful abstract painting. The dark cliffs make a perfect background for the color. Very well seen, David!

I have to disagree with Rajesh (rajhima) about Thomas Kinkade. If this were a Kinkade, it would be far less original and creative, and someone else would have gone out and taken the photo for him. And there would have been a lawsuit involved somewhere.

Hi David, I must say that I very much like "your impression of autumn". It's really magic this picture and not in the least because of its peculiar colours - wow, that hunting yellow! - and its exquisite reflection that gives the whole scene a rather surreal touch - but I guess that is after all your trademark! David, this is awesome. I really like how you have framed the shot; just enough light for a dramatic effect. This kind of isolated light is what makes this shot interesting for me. Why the off-level waterline?.

The title could equally be "Autumn Impressionistic." A wellc composed shot with superb hues and tones representing the season. I especially like the combination of the cottonwood and maple hues in the water. The lighting is alluring. A subtle masterpiece, David.

My first reaction was that it looked like an impressionist painting and after reading several comments that has already been said, so it must be right. More specifically it reminds me of a Monet when he had started to go blind. The diagonal of the green trees between the yellow and the red is also effective compositionally. Simply beautiful

A colorful composition that is very pleasant to the eyes,like mine,who sees in blue and white.
The water reflects more colors as it seems to fight for the attention of the viewer.

I had a look to several of your pictures and congratulate you for their quality. The black and white ones are clean and powerfull. In the color ones you are able to capture delicate tones. In this picture, which is composed like an abstract paint, I like the pastel colors blured in the water. Very nice !

One of the things I missed about my side of the Equator is the 4 seasons thing. Sometimes, there is something of a boring seeing everything evergreen. It would be nice for a chance to see something beside green for a change. It just proved one thing that, it doesn't have to be green to be a life supporting plants. The reflection is wonderful David and I liked that splash of bright lit yellow on the cottonwood's top.

Aah, what a delight, as usual you are at the right place at the right time, and living in such a photogenic place also helps, I think including the sharp non reflective part is better, the reflection alone would be interesting but too vague to understand what were looking at.

This picture is WONDERFULL!. The yellow/green part is gorgeous. Reflects are really nice and blur effects is superbe. Background has so rich colours from red to purple, it's unbelievable.
The light is great too, specially on the yellw trees.

Hello David. Curious photo. I like the effect of the water for this daily picture. The slow exposition velocity is very good, because the image is sharp and the reflection is good but blur. Good photo.
