Photographer's Note
Location: Beartooth Butte (elevation 10,500 ft) reflected in Beartooth Lake (elevation 8,9004 ft) at sunrise.
About the Photo: It was an unusually cold August morning when I shot this photo capturing the mornings first light on Beartooth Butte. The elevation of the place I camped at was 10,000 ft. (3,050 meters). When I got up I had to scrap ice off the windshield of my van. I hadn't expected my August trip to be so cold (I hadn't even expected to come here. I planned on staying in the Tetons, but during the trip I decided to make a side trip to Beartooth Pass). The only warm cloths I had were pants and a jacket. So I put on all the clothes I could and even put socks on my hands to keep them warm, which actually worked really well, but I must have looked pretty silly. I didn't matter though because I was the only person around.

Beautiful balance, those two stones seem to be the base for that mountain. Great shot, congrats! Ah, and I love that tiny fog over there.

Love this shot, Ryan. Central symmetry works wonders here, as does your filter and ultradeep field. Excellent light on the mountain top. I also like the reference to Blackmore's Rainbow in the title:)

Hi Ryan
Very nice division of frame and good 'classic' compo with stones in the foreground. What I like especially is that mist above the water and the light at the top. Beautiful pic very well taken.

Very nice Ryan. It's a very beautiful composition, evokes a strong peaceful emotion for me. I like how the long exposure allowed you to capture some fog coming off the lake in the distance. And your sharpness is great.
Nice job!

Wonderful image and a great composition. A lot of thought was obviously put into getting exactly the right viewpoint. The large rocks in the foreground with the reflection falling between them has worked beautifully. The early morning light on the mountain top, reflected in the lake really lifts the image.
My only criticism is the wide, white border. I would much rather that space be filled by the image itself.

Hi Ryan
Excellent shot and the best picture I've seen this week. I especially like the rising mist on the water line. Very atmospheric. As usual, you have followed the guidelines to the letter and captured this shot in a soft, sweet light. Good also to see you were suffering for the art. But it paid off though!!
Cheers

Well balanced. I like the atmosphere of this picture. The idea of taking a photo of the morning first lights on the mountain (rather than directly) is very good here. The colours are wonderful as a result. Nice work.

The picture is just perfectly beautiful. Wonderful composition, perfect reflection of the golden red lights on the rocks, the faint mist at the surface indicating the coldness of the morning. Even the rocks in the foreground are just in the right position to make a natural frame around the mountain's reflection.
And I like your note a lot because it is both informative and very personal.

Perfectly composed shot! I like the way the two rocks on each side provide a frame for the reflection of the mountain. Great lighting too, with the sun just hitting the top of the peak. Beautiful!

I love every single (good) image that has a thin layer of fog kissing the magic still water. And when the photo is as well composed as this one, this love grows even more. It's incredible your foreground composition. The two larger rocks on each side of the reflected hill are a touch of master. Love the red top of the mountain. There is really nothing like the sunrise. I admire your photographic skills as well as your discipline to get up early to catch this special light. Muito boa amigo!

Stunning Ryan. Great subject and I like the alpine glow. Wonderful mist rising from the lake. The composition works well but borders on being a little "too cute."

P.S. Great work with the lens. I think Sigma would be happy with what gets posted here.

Beautiful semi-symmetry and balance, Ryan, taking full advantage of the clear still water. The mist off the lake is a nice touch, surprising in such a dry place. (Must be that unexpected cold.) This could probably work very well as B/W, too. Regards, Ken.

I really like this one, Ryan. The entire composition is very good, but that color just at the top of the peak is mesmerizing for me. This would sell in a gallery.
Are we going to see more of this area or from your teton trip?

Exquisite work, Ryan... the Beartooth Butte's burning head is fantastic amidst the cools of the blues around. The exposure, the composition and colours are spellbinding too. Perfection.
