Photographer's Note
Location: Snake River Overlook just off Highway 191 in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming.
About the Photo: This photo was taken almost a half an hour after "sunrise" (sunrise never really happened because of clouds). I had given up hope that the sun would ever break free of the thick clouds on the horizon behind me and was getting my stuff ready to leave, but some teenage boy started talking to me about some cool hikes I should go on. After about five minutes of talking the sun all of a sudden broke free. So I quickly set my tripod back up and took several pictures. I thanked the boy for not letting me leave. There was also a lot of smoke in the air from a forest fire to the east, which is visible as a hazy layer just above the tips of the mountains. This was the first morning of four that I spent photographing the Tetons. I just got back today, so I'll be posting many more photos from my trip in the coming days.
Focal length was 13mm.
Side Note: I chose this location because of the clouds. When I first woke up they were above another good shooting location about 10 miles to the south, but I noticed they were moving slowly north and decided to come here and wait for them. They arrived right on cue.

Hi Ryan,
Just goes to show how a wide angle lens can make a difference to a landscape photo. Truly amazing. The clouds, the mountains and above all the soothing colours make this a photo to treasure. Well Done!

HI Ryan
What a beautiful shot! The sky looks like a painting and the morning light brings wonderful soft hues and great clarity. Excellent compo too, which allows us to see the variety of this spectacular landscape.

Buying that Sigma was the cleverest move I’ve seen from you lately. Why? Because it is giving *me* the most precious learning tool! ;) That’s really true Ryan, now that we share the same equipment I am learning really a lot from you, studying your choices, your compositions and the way you control light. Please keep posting all these exposure details. Love the layered composition once again. These vertical landscapes are really my favorite and this one builds well from foreground bottom to that omnipresent great sky in the back. I like the mountain layer very much. That haziness resulted very well and adds a extra impact to the scene. The deep colors are also amazing. Just miss some clarity in the foreground green branches but I understand your choice to preserve the natural light conditions of the scene. Very good my friend!

Hi Ryan,
A great moment, great note to.
It happend to me so many times, thinking the light was over and there it was...always a big surprise.
I like your picture, especially the reds and blues, and not forget those puffy clouds who are drifting in the scene....absolute great shot.
Regards, Henk

A superb landscape shot - the colours are wonderful, great conrast, the green of the trees, the red colours of the middle section & mountains & the blue of the sky. The DOF is perfect too.

Hey Ryan,
Very nice. I love this shot. You nailed the graduated ND filter just right. I don't know if it's because I'm tired or if I'm jealous that you've been out shooting pictures...but it seems like the image is canted a very tiny bit to the right. It's a minor complaint... I love the colors and 'tone' of the image. Very well done. I wonder what a horizontal crop would look like? Dana and I have got to get you shooting a large format camera...
Very well done...I give you my highest praise.

Fantastic shot Ryan!
Your shot is really powerful! Lovely colours and tones of this beautiful Snake River Overlook in Grand Teton National Park. Good compo, contrast between blue sky, clouds, mountain and forest. It was worth to get up early and wait.
I enjoy it a lot and thanks for sharing!

PS: I made a small workshop.

Hello Ryan. Very interesting landscape. The effect of the filter is spectacular. I like very much the light and the colours of the photo. The Danzi workshop is good and his idea is good, the crop of the bottom is difficult beacause the resultant photo isn't very vertically.

Serwus Ryan !
The clouds are really fantastic but also the light in the distance crossing valleys works nicely for the effect. The composition is good, however a bit unbalanced imo. Let me say, the right part is poorer in details ;)
This is still wonderful image.
Be well,
M.
