Photographer's Note

Whimsical sculpture. The view south from Lion Mountain in upstate New York on a fall day. There is a great new trail made by the Adirondak Mountain Club up the east side of the mountain. At lower levels you pass through beautiful deciduous woods which are colorful in fall and then ascend through conifers and finally a last ascent up a rocky scree. It's a great hike on a fall day for fit people and you are rewarded with a 360 degree view. You can see Montreal and the St. Lawrence valley to north and east. Mount Marcy, the tallest peak in NY State to the south. Also it's fun to see the new windfarm developments springing up in Massena and Cherubusco. You can climb the old fire tower to see how they used to triangulate forest fires.
