Photographer's Note
The evening we were leaving the lake at Beech Fork, the sun was setting and the shadows were long. My brother was driving and I had just an instant when I saw the shadows created by the handrailings on the stairs. No time to set up a shot, I just aimed, shot and hoped for the best. :)) I've seen (and made) better shots, but I thought those shadows were so cool...

Aren't they fabulous?!?!? I am not sure from your note -- you DID make your brother STOP, didn't you? Or did you shoot this from a moving car?
The composition is interesting and could lend itself to many possibilities, no? I love the sentinel lamp-posts on the left and the perfectly-shaped tree in the upper right, which draws my attention to a great little nugget (I love finding little nuggets in fotos!) -- the diagonal slash of shadow across the vertical rails of the fence in the upper right corner! And then, once you start looking deeper, you see the great stone wall in the background! Talk about depth!
Well seen. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Shelly,
The shadow pattern really dominates this picture, the wooden stairs don´t look that impressive by themselves. Still these stairs provide a fine diagonal line. I guess you waited for sunset to catch these long and impressive shadows!
Kind regards

Really good catch. Some interesting work is done with a single chance and unprepared. Those shadows are really very distinct and clear. As if painted into the picture. The sun's angle was perfect. A fun shot !!
Well done.

Kia ora Shelly, (greetings from New Zealand),
you're right, it is a cool shot. Sometimes these spontaneous pictures turn up trumps as this one has. Well done. Cheers, Neil

Hello Shelly
Now that is a cool pattern of shadows on the lush green grass. I really have to give it to you, you have the eye for spotting this from a moving car and even having the time to react and take that shot. The shadows look somehow like a row of upturned mountains with a dense forest on their slopes. Perfect indeed.
have a great day

Hey Shelly
Sorry for my late reaction. Here is the very excellent picture. The shadows on the grass's is unbelivable. Very good design, composition and colors. Maybe vertical choose will be better. Thank you very much for sharing.
Best regards

Hi Shelly,
Very impressive shot indeed. Quite unbelievable that you have taken this photo from a car passing by. I do know if it could have been much better than this if you had stopped. I doubt it. TFS and have a nice day!
Kind regards,
Ulf

Hi Shelly
Excellent and your well trained eye! Great perspective, dof and compo with repetitive projection of light on the handrail, and also excellent choice with the diagonal lines.
This is beautiful and much more mysterious than a straightforward light/shadow shot as the warm light hitting at the angle, creates this amazing pattern of hard shadows on the lively green grass.
Very clever of you to spot the potential and even cleverer to make it work! Congrats
Best regards

Hi Shelly,
Wow that is a strong saw pattern. One couldn't guess that those stairs would create such view when the sun is on right direction. Your bright exposure shows the pettern in strong contrast.

that is really quite amazing, shelly --
at first glance, i thought they were cut or painted into the grass, but no...
they really are shadows! what an unusual shot!
someone knew what they were doing when they designed those railings :)
nicely seen and good thing you're a fast shooter! ;)
