90210, a photo from California, West

Photographer's Note

For my generation this number clearly refers to film series about teenagers growing up in Beverly Hills. 90210 may be the only American postal code known to people outside of USA. Well, it was the case at least when the series was on the air. So, yes this is my postcard from Beverly Hills. For tourists visiting Los Angeles, both Hollywood and Beverly Hills may be a bit disappointing. You may expect streets paved with marble, but they are not. However, even though the place may be less glamorous than you may have hoped for, it is worth of visiting. Famous places have their own unique atmosphere which you need to discover for yourself. In this photo you see the most popular street in Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive. A scan from print.

did you borrow Gert's Time Machine? I guess so, I want to borrow it when you're done. I have to agree with you, Hollywood and just LA in general are pretty ugly and not very photogenic at all. its reputation Far succeeds its reality. Good choice to take this in the vertical, I think most would not have. I see several people here with cameras...what is everyone interested in? cheers

Your 18 year old photo peaks my interest. I believe I know this very spot. I shot it from top of the stairs looking downward. This mall has been totally refurbished. I'll try to get a recent photo. Should be fun. Here I go again, copying one of your stairs shots.

Il est bon de temps en temps de regarder dans le rétroviseur et découvrir des lieux qui avaient ou non un charme particulier.
Je suis admiratif du résultat photographique.
Je remarque que la mode vestimentaire était aux pattes d'éléphant !

Looks a bit like the Spanish Steps in Rome! Only there is no fountain in the immediate fg, only a small one off to the left of the stairs. An excellent scan from a paper print. I spent all of 10 minutes in LA & caught the first available bus to Yosemite. Disneyland and Hollywood are not really my cup of tea. We have Movie World and many theme parks here in Australia just an hour south of Brisbane. But tfs!

The street must than not are in marble, the stairway and building are pleasant to look at.
But also a fantastic depth and perspective photograph.

Hello Mariusz,

Although I have never been to California, I feel to have seen this scene before.It really reminds me of the Spanish Steps in Rome, although maybe not quite so crowded.
Although you are quite scathing about Beverley Hills in general because of your experience of the place, this particular place looks quite attractive.
You have composed the scene extremely well. The steps are well placed, guiding positively inwards and help to create a fine sense of depth.

To prawda, czesto wyobrazamy sobie rozne miejsca zupelnie inaczej niz one naprawde wygladaja. Zdarza sie w takich wypadkach, ze kiedy nastepuje zderzenie naszych wyobrazen z rzeczywistoscia, zaskoczenie jest czasem negatywne, a czasem wrecz przeciwnie. Dlatego, miedzy innymi, podroze sa takie ciekawe. Ja mam wiecej takich pozytywnych doswiadczen, np. z Afganistanu.
Moze schody nie sa marmurowe, ale i tak to miejsce wyglada bardzo ladnie, szczegolnie uchwycone na twoim zdjeciu. Ladne swiatlo i czyste niebo, czy tam zawsze jest taka ladna pogoda?
Ludzie wygladaja na zrelaksowanych i zadowolonych z zycia.

I don't remember, but I guess I didn't visit rodeo drive, or it was so fake I didn't remember. curious this structures in the street, looks like copies of other building mixed in a strange way. nice details of the area.

Mariusz, the urban equipments, the fountain, the flowers and the elegant architecture give to Rodeo drive its personality and its own identity. The passersby animate the scene. The picture gives a glimpse to that street. Fine colors, good sharpness, instructive photo note, regards.

I remember the television series, it was a long time ago.
These details I see in the photo are fantastic, the feel of a strong graphic touch in a great portrait format and a very good light that highlights them well.
I don't know what I like more, the lively atmosphere with all these people, the beautiful staircase or the brick tile facades.
Visually very nice image.
