Postcard from Santa Barbara, a photo from California, West

Photographer's Note

Looking at my archival photos from the pre-digital times I started to appreciate the digital photography. In the past a photographer needed to develop photos to be able to see the results. It is so easy nowadays to quickly check the recorded picture and take it again after a minor adjustment. I like the fact that now I can take as many photos as I want without any additional cost and without the need to develop and store prints or slides which are so fragile. Unfortunately, I cannot easily re-visit my favourite destinations with the digital camera.

This photo presents one of the most charming missions build in the past along the coast of California, Santa Barbara. Beautiful little town about 2 hours away from Los Angeles.

Hello Mariusz,
The wall on the right with its row of arches makes a great lead-in to the white tower, which was lit so well and you also handled its exposure perfectly. The palm trees also make a great appearance and the blue sky is a winner.

Stara hiszpanska misja - piekne zdjecie - no tak czlowiek pojechal by ponownie w to samo miejsce i mysle ze aparat bylby tylko pretekstem bo sa miejsca ktore chce sie ponownie odwiedzic ( Malgo twierdzi inaczej - ze trzeba zawsze jezdzic w nowe miejsca - ale ja uwazam, ze na zobaczenie wszystkich atrakcji tego swiata czasu jest w zyciu i tak za malo to mozna sobie powrac do miejsc ktore sie lubi )

Hello Mariusz,

I found that where digital really excels is in low light levels such as nocturnal and blue hour or inside cathedrals and caves. It was pretty much hit or miss with film. A superb result here with good sharpness. Tfs!

Hello Mariusz,

Santa Barbara looks to have lovely, almost tropical vegetation. The many green hues add a luxuriance to the setting of the mission.
The composition is well chosen. The wall leads naturally inwards to the tower, which is a very sharp, interesting focal point.

From the POV chosen we clearly see the bells, which are shown beautifully with the daylight.
The row of arches gave good sense of depth to the picture.

Nice sense of depth in this well-scanned photo. 👍🏻👍🏻 Unfortunately, it is too easy to lose your photos in the digital era. One hard disk crash in 2016 and I lost about 13 years' worth of photos. With analog media, you had to have a catastrophe like a house fire to lose your photos.

Mariusz, that old mission located in Santa Barbara contains a bell tower. It has a luxuriant garden including palm trees. I like the arcades on the left. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.

Anything can be found in the archive since the inception of the digital record, and old dream photos of the movie remain a thing of the past.
Also interesting is the rich work of Gert (Holmerz), who shows us the beauties of the old technique of photography.
Another beautiful photo - postcard from Santa Barbara.
The quality is excellent under bright sunshine, the finely painted details of the bell tower and diagonal of the building with perfectly positioned palm trees in the frame.
Visually very nice image.

Great view of the Mission de Santa. Barbara, with the perspective of the wall with its supporting arches, the solid and resistant tower, both the plants and that group of palm trees, bring a lot of beauty to the image and a great sunny day.
Very effective color, which highlights the details of the image.
