Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
Yesterday, I posted a photograph of the Statue of Liberty, taken on a trip to Liberty Island. This photograph was taken earlier, as we sailed into New York, after crossing the Atlantic.
You have no idea how excited we were!
This was our first visit to the U.S.A!
We were given an alert by the captain, to awake and get to the decks, if we wished to take photographs of the the city, just as the sun was rising!
There was the Statue of Liberty and, even better, the Staten Island Ferry was just sailing into view!
The Staten Island Ferry is a passenger ferry route operated by the New York City Department of Transportation. The ferry's single route runs 5.2 miles (8.4 km) through New York Harbour between the New York City boroughs of Manhattan and Staten Island, with ferry boats making the trip in approximately 25 minutes. The ferry operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with boats leaving every 15 to 20 minutes during peak hours and every 30 minutes at other times. It is the only direct mass-transit connection between the two boroughs.
Historically, the Staten Island Ferry has charged a relatively low fare compared to other modes of transit in the area; and since 1997 the route has been fare-free.
Our first interaction with New Yorkers was somewhat brusque, almost rude, as we were herded like cattle to have fingerprints taken in quite an aggressive way.
Our feelings of excitement began to evaporate, as we wondered what else we were going to experience!
However, we need not have worried. Our taxi driver apologised for the 'morons' who 'welcomed' tourists at the port and from then on, we found New Yorkers to be warm and friendly.
Have a good day, Bev :-)

A lovely composition. The lighting on the ferry quite stunning with Liberty dominating.

Hello Bev,
So you actually travelled by boat to the USA! I thought nobody did that any longer (except Greta Thunberg). At first glimpse the Staten Island ferry looked like a yellow submarine in a surface position. It almost steals the attention from the statue, which however makes a great background in the early morning light. The colours, statue and ferry gave you quite a spectacular photo.
My limited experience from just one visit to the US is that American immigration officials are not the most charming persons on earth. ;-)
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Bev,
Like this picture of the Statue of Liberty in New York from a side we don't see very often.
I recognized in the description of your arrival at customs the first time Lars and I arrived in America. Admittedly by plane, but the rude, unwelcome morons were apparently also on duty at JFK.
In later years, we made sure we never flew to NY again. Boston, San Francisco and Washington were fortunately a little friendlier.
Have a nice day, groet Rob

Hi Bev,
The wideness of the area is creating depth. The point of view is showing the details of the ferry boat and of the Statue of Liberty. The light is bringing out the colours. Have a nice day.

curiously I preferred to visit western coast at first in USA. I hope to visit the other side someday.
I liked the view with the orange boat in evidence and the famous monument well visible too.
while immigrants in USA saw this statue, the ones who went to brazil had a view of jesus with open arms.. Like my parents had.
take care

Hello Beverley,
Oh, you sailed to America! That must be quite an experience! But the way you were welcomed reminds me of my first encounter with New Yorkers at JFK Airport, which wasn't too friendly either. This is a great view of the Statue of Liberty, very well juxtaposed with the orange ferry. The pastel colours in the sky are lovely, too.

Hi Bev
I though that the bird photo next to this photo was going to be your, but no - still in NY with a good photo of this NY icon backed by suburbia instead of sky scrapers.
cheers

Hello Bev,
Attractive comp[osition with this red ferry and the Statue of Liberty. How strange that you sailed to the USA. was it the big sailboat? It must have been an interesting experience. But I prefer the aeroplanes.

Hi Bev,
You were lucky to get the ferry in the photo. It adds a great splash of orange within the blue water, as well as implied movement. The composition is well balanced with the famous Statue on the right and the ferry on the left. A beautiful morning light falls on everything here. From this point of view we can see how the statue dominates the landscape.

Hello Beverley, the Staten Island Ferry stands out so clear and bright against the blue of the sea.
The composition is well balanced with the Statue of Liberty standing clear of the horizon.
It is quite special when one first encounters the Statue, and I imagine that viewing it as you did here from the ship must have been wonderful.
I too encountered some rather rude officials as we entered the country, that was at the airport in Washington! They seemed very impatient!
The early morning light with the soft tones in the sky are beautiful.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Hello Bev,
The rust red / orange body of the Staten Island Ferry contrasts superbly with the blue water, and the bg Statue of Liberty is unmissable as a focal point. Tfs!

Hello Bev,
This is a beautiful and classic view. I can imagine how exciting it must have been to wake up and see the statue and the harbor for the first time. The lighting on the ferry is lovely, too. Take care!

Dear Beverley,
Thanks God, your excitement did not hinder you in taking such an excellent photograph! Of course there was an element of luck in it. What are the chances to see a ship in orange colours under the light of the raising Sun just in the right place? Anyhow, you were sober enough despite your excitement (which I understand) to take this shot. I had no choice, but to fave it! :)
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Beverley, the presence of the ferry adds vivid colors to the composition. It is used for sightseeing tours on the bay. The passengers can gaze at the bridges, the statue, the skyscrapers. The viewpoint provides a wide panorama. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hello Beverley,
I took the ferry to Staten Island but I thought the boat was further from the statue of liberty than shown here. In any case, I don't have any good pictures of the statue of liberty.
Moreover, my ferry boat did not have such a beautiful colour at all :) But I cannot complain because both the outward and return journey were free.
I agree, I found most New Yorkers very friendly and helpful. Especially Brenda of course.
But it took a long time to queue at the airport. Organization wise, it looked like arriving in Mumbai.
Wonderful strong colour contrast in this photo.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Bev,
beautiful wide view of the statue. The boat adds a nice touch. It made me first think of yellow submarine but it is actually more orange and after a closer inspection not a submarine :)
I like very much the color of the sky and water. Beautiful tones.
Excellent capture!
