Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
Gert and Malgo were quite surprised that we had sailed to America. I'm not overly fond of flying, though it has to be done sometimes, but this was the most amazing way to travel to America.
The facilities were unbelievable: library, cinema, planetarium, bars, restaurants, cafes; you could even enrol on courses for languages, art, computing, chess, bridge, etc. There were shops but they weren't of great interest to us.
Or you could just stand/sit and watch the ocean!
Occasionally there would be sightings of dolphins or whales, but these were infrequent.
This photograph captures how I felt about the Atlantic Ocean - vast and wild!
It is difficult to assign a country as we were in the middle of the ocean but, I have estimated that we were nearer America, therefore nearer New York than Southampton.
Thank you for your interest, Bev:-)
P.S. I actually uploaded the wrong photograph.
This was processed many years ago but I did a new pp with a later copy of PSE. I will load it as a workshop, just for your interest.

Hello Bev,
The turquoise wake is the most striking feature, but I also love the inclusion of the family watching the water or maybe the unbroken horizon. We get a good idea of the dimensions of the ship. It's obviously huge. The brightness of the ship and the dark ocean create a dynamic contrast. It's a very enjoyable photo.
Best regards,
Gert

The white wake of the big vessel draws the viewer to appreciate the vast ocean, as depicted the title, Beverley.
It takes longer than flying, but maybe keep you with activity on the longer sail.
Luxury is associates with such a large-ship and we get good example in the added WS.
Quite an advanture, I am sure.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hi Bev,
The wideness of the ocean is creating depth. You have captured well the swirl made bay the cruise ship. The point of view is showing the details of the section of the ship. Have a nice day.

I liked a lot the way you built this image with the tracks in the waters and these personages watching them while we have part of the boat structure.
Probably I will never use such big boats to travel because I have not so much time to visit places and I could spent 5 days inside a boat. maybe if one day I will visit caribbean sea... haha.
take care

Hello Beverley,
Fantastic photo of the vast ocean and the long wake of the ship, which makes a nice colour contrast with the darker water. Good inclusion of the ship and the two people also.

Hello Bev,
This view is impressive no matter which version you posted as the main photo. :-) The people look so tiny, and the ocean so vast. I like the waves created as the ship moves forward. Very nice. :-)

Hello again,
This one too, is an excellent photograph. I like the composition, but beyond doubt it is the human presence, which makes it excellent. People gazing at the endless sea. The tiny details, like the hop-scotch (~school of jumping in Hungarian language) make it more interesting.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hi Bev
Yes the workshop one is the proper one.
We're not into large cruise ships in the slightest but if you don't like flying .... I guess we'll never see you in Australia.
A good seascape and at least there aren't crowds filling up the back of the ship.
cheers

Hello Bev,
When I read that you sailed to New York, I was thinking rather about the yacht. But it was Queen Mary 2. As I have found, it is larger and faster than Titanic. Where you not afraid? :).
How long was the cruise? Nice view of these people looking at the ocean.
I went by ferries in the Baltic Sea - to Sweden and also to Helsinki from Tallinn. It was fun but it was just a short trip.
Best regards MAlgo

Hello Bev
Well composed using the rule of thirds for the people at bottom left and the horizon line at top. The wake adds perspective. Good sharpness and colour. Tfs!

Hello Beverley,
Can you still see the British Isles in the distance? :)
I have neighbours who also went to NYC by ship (but returned by plane). They also enjoyed their journey by ship very much.
Still, I think it's not the kind of journey that someone undertakes individually. Moreover, I also fear that on the ship I will only meet a more upscale type of travellers.
How long was the journey from Southampton to NYC? Did the return journey take just as long?
Weren't there also lectures? There used to be an American active on this site who had given lectures on many boat trips. I forgot his name. Bülent?
Indeed, the ocean looks vast and wild. But the waves cannot make the wake disappear quickly anyway.
Best regards, Paul

Beverley, you made an incredible travel between Europe and America like the journey of the Titanic. The boat is very big and leaves foam after its passage. Three passengers admire the landscape from the upper deck. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.
