Road to the Presidency

A short interruption of my summer series for a photo of the place many people will be watching tomorrow, when at noon local time Joe Biden will be sworn in as the new and 46th President of the United States and Kamala Harris as the new Vice-President of the United States. This will happen at the West Front of the U.S. Capitol, which is seen in this photo, and which of course only two weeks ago was also the scene of the violent attack by supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump.

The street in the foreground is Pennsylvania Avenue, which runs from the Capitol to the White House and is used for a parade after the inauguration, although this year of course it will be a much smaller event than usual.

Hej Lars,
Jag hade tänkt avbryta min resa genom Indien med en aktuell bild frĺn Georgia, alltsĺ Georgien i södra Kaukasus, med anknytning till den avgĺende galningen. Men jag ändrade mig i sista stund. Den här bilden är mer passande och betydligt pampigare än min. Trafikljusen och ljusen frĺn bilarna skapar en fin stämning i den tidiga kvällen.
Galningen kommer nog att hitta en fin förklaring till att han hade större publik än vad Biden kommer att fĺ.

Hallo Lars,
Meestal wordt het Capitool van een andere zijde getoond.
Dit zicht met de drukke avenue kende ik nog niet.
Ondertussen stijgt de spanning. Zal de inauguratie van Biden zonder problemen verlopen? Of zullen er toch enkele gefrustreerden amok maken?
In ieder geval breken morgen betere tijden aan.

The road leads my eyes toward the Capitol which is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the Capitol building. The light is making the colors to stand out. Have a nice day.

Funny, but I met in Zanzibar the people who believed in conspiracy theories and still had hope that Trump will remain the president.

Hello Lars, an excellent point of view where the Capitol building fills the width of the frame.
The various lights from the traffic and signals catch the eye, adding to the scene.
There are subtle colours in the sky which suggests early evening, they make a pleasant background for the famous building.

No parade this year, Lars, rather we now see on TV road blocks as a war zone.
Your picture shows better days, before we could even concieve about the horror hours of Jan. 6th, 2021. The place would never look as it was, unfortunatly.

Ik ben er nooit geweest, maar als hier kan staan om deze foto te nemen, dan kan ik mij inbeelden dat het echt imposant moet zijn.
Het lijkt me al valavond te zijn, maar het heeft geen invloed op de kwaliteit van de foto.

great evening capture of the capitol building.
I have never been to Washington DC. I suppose I should visit it someday. Nice perspective here with the zoomed in view with the road leading to it.
The title so literally appropriate.
America is such a beautiful country and I love the people there, they are so kind and welcoming, unlike most Europeans, but their politics is certainly quite particular and difficult to identify with.
Great capture, It would be also interesting to wait few moments for the blue hour at the same spot. I am sure the building is well lit.

A well done image of the elites house. They spend millions and millions of Americans dollars on there lavish and czarist lifestyles. But hey, they were voted in there so they say. Nice capture I like it. The election was a joke. But enough of my rants.....Nice capture and note.
