Palace of Fine Arts

I took this photo seven years ago tomorrow, but that just happens to be a coincidence, I somehow recently realised I hadn’t shown this part of San Francisco before. This remarkable building is called the Palace of Fine Arts. It was originally built for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition and completely rebuilt between 1964 and 1974. The Beaux-Arts structure was designed to resemble a decaying ruin in ancient Rome. The main part of the complex is this 49 metres high rotunda. It had been a cloudy morning, but the clouds were finally being chased away during our visit.
