Photographer's Note
Location:This giant monolith is know as The Organ, and it's located in the Courthouse Tower's area of Arches National Park.
Story: When I'm photographing the desert I'm like a child on Christmas morning. I wake before dawn without the help of an alarm clock, just the excitement of what nature is going to show me that day. I drive to a preselected location, usually without any breakfast, hike out to certain spot and wait. On this particular morning the sun came up and lit up this giant rock face beautifully, but minutes later, it went away again, covered by clouds. I started out with this vertical composition and by the time I tried this horizantal composition the golden light was already gone.

Great subject for your composition. Excellent lighting, with the foreground in shade to emphasize the subject. Very sharp and colourful. Thanks for sharing it!

Excellent clear colorful shot! Everything is very well balanced due to the reflection in the puddle. I particularly like the various shades of blue and red in the sky and rock, respectively. Good contrast with the rock and the sky, also. Well done!

Hi Ryan,
Great light and reflection. Well positioned... maybe a little more reflection would have worked well also?
Thanks, Lewis.

Well done once again. Majestic landscape with a strong vertical composition (my favorites). The early morning light was masterly captured by you. The inclusion of this gray stripe in the foreground works very well to balance the composition. Perfect reflection too. I love it!

The colours you obtained by waiting there so early in the morning are a real reward! It's amazing how miraculous the Earth itself reveals to our eyes and sometimes we cannot understand!
Congratulations for being able to feel the miracle, for the huuuuuuge patience :) and for making and sharing such a wonderful photo!

Superb reflection shot, Ryan. I'd sure love to see this as a print; it would really shine! I like the centered composition here, and the portait orientation is effective, too.

Ryan, of all your wonderful photos, this is THE one that really "does it" for me. Technically it is excellent, but I especially find it emotionally very affecting. You have so well captured the majesty, serenity and indifference of the Colorado Plateau in this epigrammatic shot. The refreshing sensations of awaking from a sweet desert night of "alfresco" sleep return to me as I look at it. Thanks! Don
