Photographer's Note
Location: Schwabacher Landing in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming.
About the photo: I've tried many times to photograph the Tetons from this spot. Usually I'm in place before dawn just waiting for the sun to come up, but on this particular morning I was shooting something else and didn't show up here until around 10:00 a.m. There was absolutely no wind, not even an occasional breeze, which created this mirror like reflection. I was the only person there at the time. It was very peaceful.
Mistake: I didn't realize that I had left half of my ND grad filters at home, until I reached in my bag for my 0.3 soft grad and it wasn't there (I was kicking myself). So I tried to use my 0.6 hard grad, which made the sky to dark. The top of the tree on the right was very dark so I tried to dodge it a little in Photoshop.

Except for the top of the fir tree being cropped out I would say that this is perfection. The color, the sharpness, DOF is all excellent. Where was your focal point for this? Great job.

Fantastic work here. Nice and crisp with vibrant colors. This has to be one of the best reflections I've seen in a long while. I agree with Remig in that I'd like to see all of that tall tree, but that is a minor thing and doesn't detract from this picture's beauty.

You have a gift for light! You have a real beautiful gallery (and I'm glad to see that you are still using slides...). I wouldn't have said that the sky is too dark, it goes well in the full picture with the saturated colors (Go Velvia!). I love reflections and this one is so perfect. Well done!

What a perfect reflection! I love these contrasting greens/blues with the white snow giving the needed balance. Good composition and deep saturated colors. I love the morning bright light that usually cats a very natural toning to these nature shots. The dodging of the tall tree is perfect. I wouldn't notice it if you didn’t mention it. Sharpness is superb. Just a small (very tiny) reserve regarding the cropped tree. Well done!

Amazing, no unbelievable that the water is THAT still. Not even a duck in there. No birds in the sky. That is luck but your colors are still magic. Thanks, Gilbert

I am speechless. What else can I say about this picture. 2 points? That might be a joke but TE doesn't allow 10.

Ryan, This is by far one of the nicest shots I have seen on this forum. Excellent work. I am planning on buying some Cokin ND Filters this week. I have used polarizing filters for years, but I can see by shots like this that ND filters are helpful. Thanks for posting such a beautiful picture. Roger

I think you got around the too-much-grad problem very well here, Ryan, and the reflection is truly marvelous! This is really a classic shot, well executed in every way, thanks in part to the total lack of wind. I can see why you've been back a few times. Regards, Ken.

Serwus Ryan !
Simply, world class photo. It's good to have You here and take delight in Your amazing Works. Brilliant work with the filters, especially grad grey make a difference here for properly exposed trees. Something very useful in landscape photography, i'm sure, and must buy it while changing equipment.
Be well,

Oh! What a serene shot! I wish I had been there too :D
The sky indeed is quite dark but it doesn't bother me at all, I rather find it adds depth to the whole scene.
The top of the tree being cut from the picture also adds to it instead of the comon sense idea that it might rob it fromo its perfection :D It gives a sense of "bigness" to the place. It's so wonderful and big that it doesn't even fit into the most perfect of all pictures :D
Wonderful, truly wonderful work!

WOW. Great work Ryan. I love this shot. I am a huge fan of Ansel Adams and of reflective photography, so as you can imagine the mix of both is awesome. The contrasts in colour along with the mirror of the beautiful landscape is wonderful.
