Photographer's Note
Location: This is another photo of Horseshoe Bend near the city of Page, Arizona.
About the Photo: I shot this photo about 45 minutes after this one. In the last shot the rocks were wet from earlier rain, but here they have already dried off. I also used a polarizer for this shot to eliminate most of the glare from the sky on the river below. As you can see there were some pretty dark rain clouds approaching. We started hiking back to the car right after I took this picture and as soon as we arrived, it started raining again really hard.
P.S. I'm not much of an Aerosmith fan, but the title seemed to fit with this plant living on the edge of this huge cliff. Here a link to my first Livin on the Edge photo.

Bonjour Ryan,
les couleurs sont vraiment intenses et séduisantes, elle n'ont de rivalité, que les contrastes de lumičres tant au fond de la vallée que dans le ciel.
Un cadrage parfait, pov et format vertical choisis avec perspicacité.
Best regards.
Daniel.

Great shot, with rich colours. But then, using Fuji Velvia you can't go wrong. Nice dramatic cloud formations too. A good capture.

Superb view with the combination of light and shadow in the canyon, plus the dark clouds in the back ground.
All the best,

PS : I understand you wanted to frame it, but still think it is better not to use one for posting on TE.

Detail and colors are excellent again Ryan. It see that you don't use max res but ofcourse do use max file size. I think this causes the compression to be lower and leaves more detail. Do you resize first and then look at compression or first at low compression and resize accordingly? Gilbert

Amazing spot. Good POV and well-lit, perfect exposure.
Although the foreground rock formations are stunning, it's the brooding weather in the distance that makes this photo for me.
Well spotted!

Ryan -
This is a wonderful image! The dark sky contrasting with the sun lighting up a portion of the canyon and the sandstone makes the image. DOF is outstanding. Nice use of a foreground element to hold interest throughout the image. Well done.

This is a winner. Great foreground sharpness really leads you into the scene. Th lighting is soft enough that there isn't too mch contrast for the film to capture. I also like that we're seeing something more than the typical view of Horsehoe Bend, which, while great, has been done and done and done.

Wow, a wonderfully dramatic shot. A top composition with the s of the river and the vegetation adding some well needed foreground interest. Splendid saturated colours as well, thats the velvia effect I guess. Maybe the clouds look a touch blue - I think this may be the effect of scanning the velvia (its happened a lot on my shots at least) - but I quite like that though, it doesn't detract.
cheers, David

Wow... That's graphic, amazing... The composition is very good (all is construct around the 1/3 rules : sky in the top 1/3, river in the 2/3 right, bush in the 1/3 bottom, 1/3 left...). Velvia and polarizer give those amazing satured colors. Realy a great shot. Thank you for sharing this.

I'm speechless. Come on, I'm a couple of weeks away from TE and you post so many wonderfull photos.
I like everything about this one, the colours, the curving river down on the bottom, the contrasting dark clouds, the details of the rock on the foreground, the bushes on the foreground (that gives a kind of distorted scale perspective), and of course, the light is fantastic...a master piece!
Keep inspiring us Ryan!

Outstanding photo, Ryan. The invertion of light conditions - dark sky and iluminated canyon - is unique and makes it an awsome view. Using the foreground pays out well and the DOF is perfect to balance fg and bg.

God.
Fantastic.
I've traced back several of yours through this shot. I'm putting you on a list to look for your shots as you post them.
For me, the most impressive (aside from the colors that others seem to love) is that you have the ability to "shoot the rocks." As a geoscientist, you have no idea how hard it is to get a non-geologist to take a decent photo that includes rocks and geomorphic images. Most focus on something that improves composition but leaves us going -- huh? Your shots combine the scene with the rocks.
Good stuff!

Hi Ryan,
That coming storm light that you captured makes this photo magic!! The framing is perfect as well. That f22 gives wonderful detail from the plant to the approaching rainstorm in the distance to the green river snaking through the deep red canyon.
