Photographer's Note
The Point Lookout Lighthouse was originally constructed in 1830 served 136 years, until it was decommissioned in 1966. It is located at the southernmost point in Maryland, marking the northern side of the Potamac river, where it joins the Chesapeake Bay.
The grounds surrounding the light have seen many uses since the light was built. During Americas Civil War, it served first as a union hospital and later housed 20,000 confederate prisoners. It is said that over 14,000 Americans met their end here and that as a result, the lighthouse is haunted.
In 2002, the state of Maryland purchased the lighthouse and is not part of the Point Lookout State park.
