Photographer's Note
Construction of the Ocracoke Lighthouse was completed in 1823. It is the third lighthouse built on or near this location. Measuring 75 ft. tall, its white washed exterior provided a unique identity for mariners. Located in the fishing village of Ocracoke on the island of Ocracoke, this is the oldest operating lighthouse in North Carolina and is equipped with a fourth-order Fresnel lens. Fully automated, the lighthouse no longer needs a resident light keeper to tend to its daily needs. The United States Coast Guard now oversees its operation.

I like this picture, perhaps because I love to see lighthouses. They draw my attention quickly and everytime I visit the beach I always look for them. Nice simple composition with the white building contrasting nicely against the clean, blue sky.

Hi Ned,
Beautiful capture of this famous lighthouse. Well framed between the white picket fence and the grand old oak tree. I love the way you have caught it lovely simple design. I will be vacationing there in about a month so I look forward to seeing this beauty in person.
