Photographer's Note

This group was paying tribute to Duke Ellington by playing variations on his music. I was eager to go becase Duke's music always makes me remeber dancing barefoot in the grass under the stars to his music. The venue for jazz in San Diego is Dizzy's. When it opened it was in a low-life (Low-rent?) part of town. Now it sits right across from the new Padre Stadium that the taxpayers bought. This area is now full of fancy hotels and expensive condos. Going to Dizzy's meant seeing homeless people sleeping in pop-up tents along the sidewalk. They are gone. Dizzy's remains, with the pipes showing in the ceiling, folding chairs and no refreshments but Oh the music!!

This is Adam Schroeder playing the baritone sax with Gilbert Castellanos on trumpet. Gilbert plays frequently here, with many different musicians, but the best shot of him is here.
