Photographer's Note

The remnants of this ranch from the 1920s is nestled next to the rocky outcroppings of the Mojave high desert in southeastern California. It puzzles me; how did Bill Keys and his family of five children thrive here? It is a lesson in fortitude and perseverance.

Great colors and contrast...well shot. The plow in the foreground really adds contradiction to the photo, something you touched on in your note. I like it, well done!

Hey Kathy!
This is a very nice and effective composition, "built" quite nicely from the FG with the metal thing (?), on forward to the ranch houses and the rock formations at the back. Lighting conditions are quite harsh, mid day I guess, but you made the best of it...I think you over saturated the colors IMHO...I tried to play with a B&W version but found the color version much much better...

This is a very eye catching shot - the colors and clarity are absolutely splendid. I like the lone tree and the old implement provides a wonderful foreground showing image depth. Great work and thanks for sharing. Gerald

I also like this kind of compositions, putting some odd thing in the foreground. Nice saturated colors, esp. the sky. As for Keys, those people were another breed. Well done. Happy Easter!

Interesting shot with amazing colours. Again, I'd probably place the rusty contraption closer to the corner of the composition, and try to get all of it in. But you've probably thought of that. In this one you've got something of interest in the foreground and behind, with that old timber building. I like the way the lone tree breaks up the horizon.
