Photographer's Note
The Hoh Rainforest is a special place with an atmosphere of its own. The combination of plants and animals make this a universe unto itself.
If I could have captured the smell and sounds maybe I would feel like it takes abstraction to tell the story.
For many technical reasons I chose the location, exposure, film, etc. Aesthetically, there is a sense of light and yet closure from the rest of the world.

Hello Dana,
I am going here next year in August and seeing this it only makes me more curious. wonder how this looks in color because this is already very good. Not at least of course by the 4x5. That f45 does not really shows here at TE size, but on a lrge print it most look awesome. Great technical skills you show here, a shame you don't post more often because these kind og high wuality images i am really missing here on TE.
I wonder how much pp you did here, the light is stunning through the trees, so much detail...really a wonderful photo.
Kind regards, Henk

Hi Dana. I love the sun-dappled shade and the rich variation of tones in this photo. The apparent hap-hazard nature of the composition is broken by the placement of the broken / fallen tree. You must have some stamina to lug a Sinar and tripod around - but I'm glad you have as this is a fabulous piece of work. Incidentally, how did you manage to scan a neg this size? Flatbed? Kind regards and very best wishes for 2008. Paul.
