Photographer's Note

The Crooked River, popular trout fishing stream, flows through the canyon formed by Smith Rocks. It is also one of the three rivers flowing into Lake Billy Chinook, a lake formed by a hydroelectric power dam. The other two rivers are the Metolius and the Deschutes Rivers. The river leaving the lake is known as the lower Deschutes River. This section of the Deschutes River has significant white water. Across Lake Billy Chinook, two of the volcanic cones of the Cascades Mountain Range are visible: Mount Washington and Mount Jefferson.
