Photographer's Note
On a day when we gather with loved ones to share and celebrate our blessings, it is in the spirit of the season to also remember those less fortunate than ourselves and do what we can to make the world a better place for everyone.

Tech Info: My first roll with a funky old '70s Canonet rangefinder that I purchased for $60. Photograph taken on Telegraph Ave in Berkeley, near my home. I shot the whole roll from the hip, scale focusing and not composing through the viewfinder at all. This shot was taken while walking, which accounts for the blur. No Photoshop except to adjust contrast and crop the frame slightly.

These two B&W shots that you've posted today demonstrate that you have the ability to see a good shot. They demonstrate that the streets of Berkley hold good material. I'd go back and shoot some more, frame a bit better, loose the blur....

In this case I think the blur really works well as it adds to the mysteriousness of the person. It has an almost ghostlike quality, and the destituteness here is enhanced as well.

While the blur is annoying asthetically, I think it forms a good representation of many people's ignorance for the homless in many of the world's richer countries. It highlights the desperation and quite well and makes it all the more disturbing to look at.
