Photographer's Note

Please do look at the workshops to understand what these photos are about.

This photo was taken in another of our local national parks. This park did not suffer in the fires but have suffered from another man made disaster due to a nearby coal mine which has sapped the Thirlmere Lakes of water. It is a long wall underground mine so the water doesn't flow as it used to.
Look at the first workshop photo. I took that in 1983 when you could swim and canoe on the same lake. On another of the lakes you could water ski. The second workshop photo was taken in 2014 when the water was starting to disappear with reeds taking over but there were still plenty of water birds about.
Now there is little water in the lakes but the coal mining goes on.
