Photographer's Note
When standing in Brisbane’s CBD riverside, you look across to the southern bank of the river. Situated between the Story Bridge and the Southbank Parklands are the Kangaroo Point Cliffs. These volcanic cliff faces formed around 30 million years ago and were mined for construction material in the late 1800’s soon after settlement began in 1823.

Hello Matt,
This is an awesome image. The light hitting the wall create an interesting contrast. The cropping is very effective to isolate the action of leader and belayer. The wall seem quite challenging but I see good foot and handholds. Nice work Matt and have an Awesome 2008 :-)

Hi Matt, Very dramatic sporting photo. Those climbers are very skilled to climb such a steep cliff. Im happy just to watch them! Good low light treatment. Have a good break (not leg though). TFS. Murray.
PS The building chart you showed is excellent.

Hi Matt,
Very clever control of the lighting against the rocks. You've provided a photo which is first of all interesting to look at, and also shows great contrast and natural colour. Superb sharpness completes the job. Well seen and well executed!
Happy New Year!
All the best,
Gerd

Good shot Matthew, with some nice lighting on the cliffs to show the rocks well. This would be even better if the climbers stood out more, because when I first looked at the photo I didn't even notice them, and only saw them after looking harder. I'm not sure how that could have been accomplished in this situation, but visually it would be a stronger shot. Happy New Year!

Hi Matt. You know, with my small laptop screen I couldn't get all of the shot in, and I've just now seen the upper climber! Perhaps, as you say, you could have captured a bit more rock face above the climber.
The light and shade and the colour tones are superb in this one. It's a very subtle picture really, nicely framed. I found the note interesting. Quite strange, your weather as opposed to ours, we've just had the hottest last day and the hottest first day of any year on record. Horrible, it was. The temp just crashed down to a cool 28!
Anyway, all the best for 2008.
Regards,
Andrew

Hi Matthew
The climber at left, complete with ropes, adds a lot to this shot. I like the yellow vs blue colour contrast. Tfs, & Happy New Year!

Hello Matthew!
It's breathtaking shot for many things. The lights mainly, playing with the irregularities of the rocks. It' quite impressive the textures, the combination with the shadows... The light over the scalator in ground is magnificent! Outstanding quality and really beautiful!
Greetings, and happy new year,
Angel.

Hi Matthew,
I was expecting to see in your collection the very first New Year shot of 2008 at TE. Some spetacular firework image with Sidney's silhoutte. Sounds cliche! You got something even better! It goes along with the beginning of 2008. It reminds me of the huge wall that is infront of us and the end of the year is the top. How many will make it? How many will have some bruises at the end, etc. Great light on the wall showing the texture of the rock extremely detailed and that person is right on spot wiht his daring look upwards.
Cheers, Peter

Great shot, Matt, with nice light exposure for the clarity and sharpness to bring out rock texture contrast nicely, great pov from low angle. Well done. TFS

Hi Matthew,
Spectacular shot ... the climber ceratainly creates a sense of danger and dynamics to the scene. The colors captured in these rugged rocks is just superb. Good choice of vertical format to accentuate the height of the cliff. Well captured and composed. Excellent work! tfs and Happy New Year.
Cheers,
Renier

Hello Matthew,
This is a genre entirely different than the expansive skyline panoramas, but as one would say in the United States, "You've hit a home run!" with this image. Warm regards and I hope you've made a good start into the New Year.

Hello Matt,
Impressive photo with the structure of the very strange cliff and this fantastic light. We would really say that there is a lighting with orange and purple spotlights.
Very well done.
