Photographer's Note
ENGLISH: This photo does not have much merit techically speaking, but has emotional value for me. The property you see is "Cornucopia" at Narromine in New South Wales, 6 hours west of Sydney. This property of 20,000 acres was settled by my great-great grandfather and his brother in 1885 and became a large cattle and sheep station. "Cornucopia" means Horn of Plenty. In those days, when Australia's wealth rode on the sheep's back, it certainly was. Although now, the land has been ravaged by drought and can hardly claim the name. The "ditch" you see to the left was once a flowing stream. The land was not red but green and arable. But this is what we are doing to our world I suppose. Since the 1960's the land has been gradually subdivided and sold, a common occurrence in our rural areas.
"Cornucopia" significa Horn of Plenty.

Buonanotte my dear friend!
Ciccio
P.S.
Congratulazioni per i 1000 :)) :))

Hi Lisa
You bring great clarity with all natural Aussie colours that wonderfully contrast with the vivid blue sky.I could do with a good feed of yabbies.

Hello Lisa,
I was ready to ask you why you included the fence in your composition, but having read your note, I can see perfectly. The rich vibrant tones of the drought ridden soil make a good interest with the grass either side of the track. Must bring back many childhood memories for you.

Ciao Cara Lisa. My goodness, you do have an "historical" link with this land. So you are a country girl at heart! The scene beyond the gate is a sad testimony of how ravaged the land has become and not just because of the drought but also because of the hoofed animals that the Europeans brought here which trampled the native grasses into oblivion and increased the desertification. Of only we knew better. Mind you, there are farmers who still carry on as if nothing needs to be changed. A shot that has a strong visual and emotive impact. Saluti. Klaudio.

Lisa,
I can understand your sentiments towards this land and agree that the way the world is changing seems beyond our control. Your photograph and amplifying note do very well to convey the state of environment and the way it has affected the farms and farmers of your country. This is also felt in our country, but I believe more because of the economy and expansion of business. Perhaps one day we will experience recovery on both fronts, but I don't believe we will until people and countries decide to work together in an endeavor to rescue our world.
It's nice that you do have this connection with the actual soil of your Australia, and equally nice that you can show us this point of view and place in the world at this moment in history. I think TrekEarth members benefit more from the complete story behind an image. An image need not be so strong if it is supported by excellent documentation to let us know about the place.
Nice composition and color, great idea to include the chain link fence gate.
Great job, but cheer up and help us save the world!

Hello Lisa
and I bet you must remembet the stream to be much bigger than it is now. There is a sad story of tradition giving way to modernity. Destruction in the guise of progress and we pay dearly for it.
Great memory manifested in this picture. On a technical note I think f8 would have worked well here.
Thanks for sharing

Ciao Lisa,
Complimenti!
Buon WE e buon 8 marzo !

Have a nice day
