Photographer's Note
The sky ignites over Moreton Bay, SE Queensland on a warm winter’s afternoon. The vista is taken from above the very tall sand dunes behind Tangalooma, on the Moreton Island sand mass. Here, Mt. Tempest is the tallest coastal dune in the world at 285m. The land, about 35km away is the northern side of the Queensland State capitol Brisbane and the Redcliffe Peninsular. On a usual clear day, the skyscrapers of the CBD are easily visible on the mainland. This intensity of sunset built up over about 20 minutes before peaking here and fading within minutes. This was the best in a series of about 15 shots taken. Not bad, considering this was taken with my earliest camera, a HP 2MP dinosaur. The horizon is straight; it is the ranges on the mainland that give the undulating effect.

Hi Matthew,
I like a lot your picture! Very nice colours and composition! I just miss the noise and the big pixels. I make a little workshop to see if it can be better.
Thanks for sharing. Elise.

There is no doubt that winter is the best time for sunsets over the Moreton Bay. I have, myself, three post of the same sunset taken within 15 minutes of the first. The colours on your picture are excellent and the blue sky came out very well behind all that “fire”. Well done.

Hi Matthew,
really nice colours of the setting sun, but I think that this photo is very ordinary, like thousands of sunsets that you can find on internet...it lacks some foreground detail, nect time try to include something in the front that would lead you into the scene...and also, the technical quality of the photo is very poor, but that is probably due to compression (but here again, you can avoid this with good noise reduction software)...
I´m sorry, this photo will probably be liked by many, as sunset is generally considered a cliche that people like...but I really think that this photo needs something more to make it other that ordinary shot.

Oh this is very nicely done Matt. The lines in the sky are great with fantastic colour. Yes its a little noisy, and yes it would be nice to have positioned something in front as a silhouette, but those lines...
Thanks, John

Hi Matthew. Spectacular, brilliant colours. I think i know why the title. I can see the elongated winged figure flying, gliding more like it, towards the water, left to right. Thanks for your fine words on my agapanthus, particularly the reference to watercolour.Regards. Klaudio.

WOW !!! This is really a spirit in the sky. I have to tell you Matthew that I am in love with your country. I have been to Australia 4 times and I can not have enough of it. Of course it's the place of the most dramatic sunsets in the world. Like here in this very picture of yours . It's agreat composition of a great moment. Well done Matthew.
Best regards from Cyprus,
Marios
