Photographer's Note

This photo is a view from the inner city suburb of Fortitude Valley, Brisbane’s night entertainment precinct. The Story Bridge is a cantilever steel bridge, the largest of its kind in Australia. It was built, like the Sydney Harbour Bridge, in the 1930’s great depression. Currently, Australia’s largest subterranean tunnel system is being built underneath the bridge to ease the growing traffic. Brisbane city is Australia’s third oldest after Sydney and Hobart, established in 1825. It is home to 1.8 million Queenslanders and is growing at a rate of 55,000 people per year, Australia’s third largest city. The skyline is also rapidly growing, with several towers currently under construction, the tallest of which at over 300m will dwarf Aurora tower on the left by about 75 metres and include an observation deck. The city is consistently warm, reaching mid to high 30’s (C) in the summer months. We have not seen any rain for months, and our dams now fall under 20% capacity. Let’s hope it soon falls.

The overpowering blue of the neon light in the centre is my only dislike of this image; you are welcome to edit it in a workshop if you wish.

The fence is intentional as a feature; my other shots from this area do not feature it, but like the way it compliments the bridge.
