Foggy Cape, a photo from Northland, North Island

Photographer's Note

This is the light house at Cape Reinga. The picture was taken late in the day, about 45 minutes before sunset. There was a thick fog rolling in from the coeans. I was shooting hand held. A Circular polarizer was used to separate the fog from the remaining blue sky.

Welcome to TE! the object (light house) is interesting although foggy and hard to see details, I think you could improve the result by changing the composition: crop about half of the sky add the complete road on the left which will add depth to it!

The combination of fog and sunset light gives a very unique atmosphere. I like it very much, in particular the way the lighthouse shines through the fog. I agree also about dovi's commments about composition.

I like the foggy and misty view, but I would prefer that the way is not cutted by the frame.

Great shot of the misty lighthouse.
Maybe you could crop a little in the bottom to avoid a piece of the road and then keep the sky as it is, but that's just an idea, no bad comment (I tried with the scrollbar...).

A nice moody shot, Michael. Well timed to catch the sunlight penetrating the fog and reflecting off the lighthouse. Regarding composition I really like the expanse of sky here - I think it's crucial to the mood. I also like the angle of the road, with the light reflecting off the gutter, but I'd crop about the bottom third of that angle. Try it with the scrollbar - see what you think. And welcome to TE!

Beautiful shot Michael. I appreciate here the use of polfilter which make a good job separating fog from sky's blue.

I like the contrast that the mist creates with the clearity of the road or hand rail at the bottom. The fact that there is people actually standing at the top by the lighthouse draws my attension into the center and what I think is the main subject of this photo. Great work, Corb!

i really like this Mike its a great pic, the size of the light house makes it look really small but there is nothing else around it, also love the curved road/path thats so outstanding along with the colour of the dirt.
