Photographer's Note
This kid is only 15 years old, believe it or not, he is.
I took this pic in the mine "Cerro Rico de Potosi", in Potosi, Bolivia.
It´s really a sad picture, cause think that we still have kids working around the world in this century... is too much.

Hola Ale,
I believe this pic is from the same mine that was mentioned in a TV program, 'Intrepid Journeys' (that I mentioned to you in an e-mail recently), that screened here a couple of weeks ago.
It's not unusual to see boys of this age doing a man's job in many parts of the world but, to me, the biggest tragedy is that this working environment is ruining their lives. The TV program made mention of a very high incidence of lung disease caused by working in this place. To think that someone so young was exposing himself to this before he'd really had a chance to live his life is, to me, the saddest thing of all.
Thank you for bringing this to the attention of the world through your photography. Although it's not the most artistic photo in your gallery, it's one of the most important for the reasons you mentioned in your note and for what I've mentioned here. This is photography with a conscience and you deserve to be recognised for it. Well done, my friend.
Hugs,
Tony
